1080p Not “Set in Stone” for Witcher 3 on Consoles
CDProjekt RED has indicated that The Witcher 3 running at 1080p on consoles isn’t guaranteed.
These new comments come from marketing manager Tomasz Tinc who, speaking in a recent interview, addressed rumors that the games may not run at 1080p on consoles. According to Tinc, the development team is working hard to get it there but can’t make any assurances at this point in time.
“We are working hard on optimizing the game and nothing is set in stone,” said Tinc. “Our engine team remains optimistic and we will surely squeeze the most we can out of each console. I know you might be expecting concrete info like the final frame rate and resolution, but it’s simply impossible to give you that sort of thing before the optimization process is complete.”
The rumors themselves emerged from a Gamescom interview wherein visual effects artist Jose Teixeria seemed less that assured that the game would make it to 1080p resolution.
“We’re working on it,” he said. “We’re trying to get it as high as possible. If we can make it at 1080p, sure, but I don’t know if it’s going to make it. To be honest, I really don’t know. Probably not.”
In other words, console gamers looking forward to The Witcher 3 are pretty much just going to have wait and see how this turns out. Of course, even if the game winds up not hitting the 1080p benchmark, it will probably still be gorgeous. Even so, considering how angry some gamers can get about this matter, we can understand why CDProjekt RED might still push to get the game to that point.
