15 Reasons The Xbox 360 Will Have Another Great Year In 2008

xbox360.jpg

Microsoft may have some serious customer satisfaction issues right now, but the great games keep coming for the system and will certainly have a huge impact on the continued success of the 360. Despite XBLA and XBL issues, I believe that the 360 will have another great year simply because of the great games coming to the system. Below, I have listed 15 games that are at the top of my wish-list for 2008 Xbox 360 titles. For now, all of these games should be releasing this year, but as always, expect at least a few to be delayed. I truly believe that the Sony PS3 will finally have a good year and could possibly outsell Microsoft, but it’s a long year and no one knows how things will go down. The following 15 games certainly look like we could be experiencing another great year in gaming: (note that some of these titles are still rumors)

  • Deus Ex 3
  • Devil May Cry 4
  • Fable 2
  • Grand Theft Auto IV
  • Halo: Chronicles
  • Halo Wars
  • The Lord of the Rings: The White Council
  • Madden 2009
  • Soulcalibur IV
  • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
  • Star Wars: Battlefront III
  • Tom Clancy’s EndWar
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction
  • Tomb Raider: Underworld

    Halo: Chronicles?

    Did I miss something? I believe LotR:The White Council is still a dead project. And Where did you hear of the Halo:Chronicles? I’m interested in seeing more on this at the least. Also did they actually announce Battlefront III? Last I heard from Lucasarts at E3, Battlefront was going PSP only at this point.

    @ Jolteon Chronicles is Peter Jackson’s Halo games codename, it’s episodic and is rumored to be an MMO

    I thought LOTR: The White Council was dead too, but received some word on it. I’m going to try to contact the developer to get some official word on it. Some of the games I included were still based on rumors that they were being released such as Battlefront 3. LucasArts is well-known for dumping false info on reporters too, so there’s no telling what will happen with that.

    Halo: Chronicles I have been keeping an eye on for some time. I don’t really have any in-depth info on it yet though.

    I think it will be another good year once these games start hitting, especially those cross platformers such as SC 4 and GTA. But i thought there were some worries for the tomb raider game since its production house was going under or some such business nonsense…

    I thought H:C was the Jackson game, couldn’t be sure. Could’ve been something as silly as Halo 1-3 in one neat package that would be totally kick-ass awesome…but an MMO? Oh dear. I can’t see that, in any shape or form, working.

    Halo Wars I’m certainly looking forward, both in an RTS sense and because the Halo lore and universe interests me. Other than DMC4, SC4 and The Force Unleashed, the only other game I’m looking forward to that isn’t on there is Battlefield: Bad Company and almost ashamedly, Dead Space. Oter than that, not a whole lot there. Then again, there’s only one game more I would want on the PS3 (if I had one) and that’s Wipeout “Proper-title-me-not-know”…year of the Wii to produce some good titles? Meh, unlikely. There’s only one game on the PC I’m looking forward to and it’s not even a game, it’s an expansion pack. That being “Command and Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath”. I think there’ll be a bit of a game drought this year due to so much being released at the tail end of last year.

    I’m not saying those released will be bad, there’ll just be less AAA and A titles.

    I actually think its pretty much a dead cert that the PS3 will outsell the 360 this year. According to VGChartz the 360 only sold 704k more worldwide than the PS3 last year even though it was way cheaper and had far bigger exclusives.

    2007 Worldwide Hardware sales

    Nintendo DS – 29,934,694
    Nintendo Wii – 16,192,449
    Sony PSP – 11,236,553
    Sony PS2 – 8,868,374

    Xbox 360 can’t match Sony massive exclusive list Sony is going to wipe the Xbox 360 outer the video game business than a bullet. PS2 is still selling great i’m a buy 2 more PS2s soon so i can have 8 PS2s. PSP will beat DS boring kiddy games this year. Wii is too damn and outdated and shorth on hardware. HD DVD is dead the Xbox 360 add-on was a failure just like the system is.

    :neutral: the guy who wrote this missed a point, nowadays when people go to buy a console the case seems to be they look towards ps3. For example if someone was to buy COD4 he will get the ps3 version. why suffer with crappy online service

    Razgriz

    On January 13, 2008 at 3:34 pm

    Ivan_PSP STFU. While yeah the PS3 will wipe the 360′s ass, the 360 isn’t all that bad anyways. Don’t even try to insult the DS by calling it’s games ‘kiddy’ or ‘boring’. Also the Wii is not nor is it outdated or short on hardware. Nintendo decided to go with gameplay and not graphics which is a good choice since I play games to have fun but not play just to look at beautiful graphics but the gameplay being horrible.

    The Wii is underpowered, it has about the same power as the original XBOX, it’s games will get old and people will look for the powerful games on the 360 and PS3.
    The 360 still has twice as many consoles as the PS3 out there so it stands to reason they might not sell as many as they already have a much larger userbase.

    The 360 has the best selection ALREADY out and more on the way.

    Devil May Cry 4: Better on PS3
    Fable 2: Ok, give you this one, dunno how good it will be though.
    Grand Theft Auto IV: Superior than PS3 version, so I’ll give ya this.
    Halo: Chronicles: WTF is this?
    Halo Wars: Mediocre RTS with 2 factions? No thank you.
    The Lord of the Rings: The White Council: What the hell is this crap?
    Madden 2009: LAWL!
    Soulcalibur IV: PS3 version will be superior.
    Star Wars: The Force Unleashed: Still don’t know much about it. multiplatform
    Star Wars: Battlefront III: Not even confirmed.
    Tom Clancy’s EndWar: Dunno how this will turn out. Multiplatform, better on PC.
    Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2: 2008 release? Multiplatform.
    Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction: Meh, splinter cell is vastly inferior to metal gear.
    Tomb Raider: Underworld: Tomb raider sucks now.

    There are so many more reasons why the ps3 will do so much better then the xbox 360. here are some of the reasons.
    blu ray disc size:
    25GB (single layer)
    50GB (dual layer)
    100GB (prototype quad layers)

    360 disc size:
    15GB (single layer)
    30GB (dual layer)
    45GB (prototype triple layer)
    That means one thing there will be much more stuff for ps3 version of gta 4, and all the other big games.

    HD dvd is losing againt the blu-ray.

    ps3 is much more efficant at keeping cool.
    i could go on for ages but in the end the ps3 rules.

    @ Peter

    LA Noire is also going to be on the 360 and The Agency is also on PC. Unfortunately Naughty Dog are now making an Uncharted sequel before Jak & Daxter so that wont be out for a few years now.

    It is still a fantastic lineup of exclusives and you can add all the multi-platform titles including 9 or 10 from this posts list of reasons the 360 will do well.

    2008 PS3 exclusives (that I know of);

    - Buzz! Quiz TV
    - MGS4
    - Haze
    - Brave Arms
    - LittleBigPlanet
    - Killzone 2
    - FIA World Touring Car Championship
    - Ni-Oh
    - Home
    - FF XIII
    - Aqua
    - Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
    - The Getaway 3
    - Disgaea 3
    - SOCOM: CONFRONTATION
    - Resistance 2
    - Eight Days
    - Gran Turismo 5 (full game)
    - Heavy Rain
    - InFamous
    - Metal Gear Online
    - Motorstorm 2
    - Naruto: PS3 Project
    - Red dead revolver 2
    - Star ocean 4
    - steamboat chronicles 2
    - tekken 6
    - White Knight chronicles
    - Yakuza 3

    Pretty much every list of 360 games I have seen is always missing titles, where is Alan Wake, Too Human, Left for Dead, Gears 2, Ninja Gaden, how do you forget Ninja Gaden? WTF! These are all huge titles, the PS3 actually has fewer thn 360 because most of the listed PS3 titles will be delayed till 2009, we will probably only see MGS4, KZ2, LBP, and GT Prologue in 2008.

    Keep in mind GTAIV and all the EA sports titles give 360 the advantage because it is the system to play those games on due to rumors true or untrue of the superior version being on 360.

    Multiplatform titles that will also be on the PS3 should NOT be considered as reasons that this will be a great year for the Xbox 360.

    Ninja Gaiden 2, Alan Wake, Too Human, Left 4 Dead, and Gears of War 2 are important titles that are missing.

    Jade Empire 2 and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic III are also rumored to be in work. For a while, I thought those two franchises along with Mass Effect would go multiplatform. However, BioWare has just said in an interview in the lastest EGM issue that Mass Effect, AND Jade Empire, AND Knights of the Old Republic – those three franchises will stay as Microsoft exclusives for good. That’s surprising. I wonder what’s the deal there.

    @DJk

    Why buy a ps2? Gee, Iuno maybe because
    1. PS3 has no backwards compatibility, only emulation
    2. There are still PS2 games coming out that are awesome

    Other Comments:

    1. Deus Ex 3 is something any fan of the Deus Ex series will be wary of. 2 wasn’t nearly as good as 1, some would say it was crap, I think it was OK but definitely not as good as 1.
    2.Anyone who lists Naruto as a game to look forward to, needs to get punched in the face.
    3.Wipeout? WTF? Who cares?
    4. Hey, I’m hoping to high hell the Halo RTS doesn’t suck, they shut down a third party mod that was making their own Halo RTS because of it, and theirs was looking pretty good. If you have to shut someone down because you’re making a project along the same lines, your project had BETTER be better than the one you shut down, it better be ing fantastic!
    5. Final Fantasy XIII: Pokemon Edition!
    6. Tomb Raider was delayed Indefinitely
    7. Capacity Size… Capacity doesn’t matter, it’s what ing fills it. If they released Goldeneye on XBLA, it would be the #1 downloaded game for the next five years, they say the reason was monetarial, I say it was because Microsoft COULDN’T HANDLE the demand. And what is it? It is a game that could be run two generations ago! Now our PHONES can ing run it.
    8. Yakuza is crap
    9. resistance is crap
    10. Madden is crap
    11. Starwars is crap

    Daran said: “the PS3 actually has fewer than 360 because most of the listed PS3 titles will be delayed till 2009, we will probably only see MGS4, KZ2, LBP, and GT Prologue in 2008.”

    Utter rubbish. The PS3 will have more exclsuives released on it this year. Absolutely no question about it. Before you disagree you should remember that games like Alan Wake, Left 4 Dead, Gears of War 2 and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction are not exclusive because they will be released on the PC as well. I will be able to play those games without buying a 360 so how the hell can they be 360 exclusives lol?.

    “Keep in mind GTAIV and all the EA sports titles give 360 the advantage because it is the system to play those games on due to rumors true or untrue of the superior version being on 360.”

    I’m not sure how you can say the 360 is the system to play GTA4 on when it hasn’t even been reviewed yet (stupidity I’m guessing). Sure there will be exclusive content released at a later date (2009 was the last update I heard) but how that effects what the game plays like when its released I dont know. I doubt there is a single human being on earth who would chose to buy a 360 over a PS3 just because of some DLC being released for GTA4 a year after release, yet there are definitely people who will buy a PS3 to play GTA4 on because they will be able to play the online part of the game for free, because the console is hundreds of times more reliable and because the console is made by the company that made their last console on which they played loads of exclusive games which they will only be able to play on the PS3.

    Microsoft keep boasting about what a huge year the 360 had in 2007 yet even with games like Halo 3, Bioshock & Mass Effect it still only managed to sell 704k more than the PS3 which is just 58k a month. That rubbish when you remember how much more expensive the PS3 is, the fact that none of its big exclsuives have been released yet, the fact that its online service isn’t fully operational yet and that the PS3 wasn’t even released in Europe until March 23rd.

    Anyway, this whole situation will become a lot clearer over the next year. The PS3 has already sold over 60k more than the 360 this year in just one week and I expect that gap in weekly sales to get bigger and bigger as the year goes on.

    Those wre not good reasons at all. (I think he made a personal list of games he specifically liked without thinking about the public.)

    This is not a good enough reason to think the 360 is going to have another great year.

    You forgot some of the most talked about games in your list and quite frankly… makes it sound like you’ve never played Gears before.

    But I think the PS3 is going to have a better year seeing that we are getting a lot of big hitters. (I don’t believe any of the current titles are going to be delayed anymore… Maybe Haze but only for a maximum of another 5 months.)

    I think the PS3 is going to expand more and more and ever keep evolving. I don’t see much happening on the 360 except for the fact that microsoft keeps coming out with things to charge you even more money for when the PS3 keeps offering something of the same value…. but for free.

    Take UT3 for the PS3 for instance… Its so easy to import a mod on the PS3… I wonder how they are going to do it on the 360…

    William

    On January 14, 2008 at 4:04 am

    I did mention it was “my” wish list for 2008 360 titles, so the list actually was a personal list of games I specifically like or would like. Sure I’ve played Gears and honestly I’m not a big fan, but I’m fine with the fact that so many people love it.

    I never mentioned the PS3 in the article, and it’s funny how it always becomes a system vs. system debate even when that’s not the intention. If someone were to ask me my system vs. system opinion, I think 2008 will be the year for the PS3 without a doubt in my mind. However, the 360 is still going to have a great year whether it finishes in 1st or 2nd or even 3rd.

    I hate the 360 as a console, I really don’t like how Microsoft treats people, yet I’m still a believer in the system, because it has great games.

    I could go in depth and give hundreds of reasons the 360 will have a great year. I know for certain that the PS3 is going to do great. I assume the Wii will continue with success, but part of that depends on continued 3rd party support, which could be an issue later on in the year.

    I’m not really sure how 2008 will stand up to 2007 as far as successful games, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a good year again.

    I’m also not a fanboy of any kind. I have a PC, I have a G5 Mac, 360, Wii, PS3, PS2, Dreamcast, Genesis, SNES, N64, PSP, DS, and my still functioning original Atari 2600. So in the end, I could really care less about the consoles. I just love the games and each system will usually have something good to offer. I think some people feel that there’s no room for 2 or 3 consoles and would love to see their console of choice win a war. There’s really no point in that considering competition will always improve quality.

    Williams:

    A lot of fanboys think 2008 is going to be the Year of the PS3. However, I see another trend. I think 2008, in terms of third-party software offering, is going to turn out to be the “Year of the Wii”.

    So far, third-party developers have stumbled and made mistakes in making games for the Wii because they are still unfamiliar with the motion control of Wiimote and Nunchuck. The motion-based control and gameplay requires brand new ways of thinking in design and conceptualization. Third-party developers are still adjusting to and learning how to successfully integrate the Wiimote into their game design.

    My prediction: By the end of this year, third-party will have successfully made that transition, and we will see a whole slew of “AAA” titles for Wii from third-party. And those third-party titles will successfully integrate and utilize Wiimote in their gameplay.

    So, if you don’t already have a Wii, get it ASAP — because it will be really hard to find one again the next Christmas (2008).

    I’m not really sure what will happen with 3rd party developing on the Wii. So far, 3rd party titles haven’t sold well on the system. Some industry insiders have predicted that 3rd party support will dwindle for the system before the year ends.

    Of course, anything can happen. I think if they could have some high levels of success with just a couple 3rd party titles, that could open some doors. If they continue to fall short of expectations, I see developers focusing more efforts on 360 and PS3 titles.

    I think there’s convincing arguments to be made for good years for all three consoles; I don’t see the relevance of pulling up a list of PS3 games to try to say that the 360 will have a bad year. If the PS3 ends up having all these AAA titles and 360 owners start going out and scooping up PS3s, I imagine most wouldn’t trade in their 360s in the process but rather simply end up with both consoles. I know in the last generation I ended up with at one point a PS2, an XBOX, and a GC, acquired in that order, and I know other people who ended up with multiple consoles. What system one buys multiplatform games for at that point comes down to individual qualities and user preferences. I know if I bought a PS3, i would still buy all my multiplayer games for the 360, because I personally know a rather large number of people with 360s, but I know exactly one PS3 owner.

    A couple of notes though:
    1. “Exclusivity” in games usually refers to console exclusivity, ignoring existence of a PC version of a game. Unless I’m really out of touch, this is generally understood to be the case.
    2. I think it would be more appropriate, due to the respective launch dates to compare the 2007 PS3 sales figures with the 2006 360 sales figures, which if I recall correctly were higher than 2007s.
    3. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t some of the best PS3 games of 2007 (like Uncharted) sell like crap? It’s not really a knock against the PS3 itself, but it’s something to take into consideration when predicting the kind of sales you should expect in 2008.

    Andrew S.

    On January 14, 2008 at 6:51 am

    Also: to say that one version of a multiplatform game will be better than another (like GTA or Soulcalibur) when the games aren’t even out yet, and with no real evidence to suggest as much, is just ridiculous.

    And, because of the strong sales of multiplatform games to this point on the 360, it’s perfectly legitimate to use those as examples for why the 360 will have a good year.

    No Andrew, I’m afraid you are wrong. The only people who think a console game that is also on the PC is a 360 exclusive are Microsoft and 360 owners.

    The Agency for instance is not a PS3 exclusive because it is also on the PC.

    Uncharted has so far sold 760,000, Heavenly Sword sold 740,000. Ratchet & Clank sold 640,000. Hardly ‘crap’. They have all sold more than PGR4 has on the 360 for comparison. As I’m sure you are aware none of those titles are exactly in the same league as Metal Gear, Final Fantasy or Gran Turismo either.

    Console exclusives *ARE* exclusive, like it or not. It is a competitive advantage when it comes to between Xbox 360 and PS3. The only people who keep arguing that a console exclusive does not count as an exclusive for Xbox 360 are militant Sony and PS3 fanboys.

    Microsoft specifically uses the compatibility and portability between Windows and Xbox 360 as a competitive advantage. You can read it in their financial call transcripts between executives and investors. Microsoft sees having their Xbox 360 games on the PC as an asset, not a liability. Microsoft likes it, and they pursue that business strategy of cross-platform development for 360 and Windows. (I’m sure Norbit would like to think of himself as smarter than all the Microsoft execs with Yale and Harvard graduate degrees and IQs of 150+.)

    And the sales numbers do prove that as an asset. Right after BioShock came out, the 360 sales got a spike. Now that’s a competitive advantage of 360 has over PS3. BioShock sold over 2 million units so far, and 70-80% were sold on 360. Now that’s a competitive advantage that 360 has over PS3, however Sony fanboys want to spin it.

    Norbit can argue and stay in deny about it. The point is: a lot of people buy 360 to play BioShock and other titles that are also on PC (but not on PS3.) Nowadays people would not upgrade or buy a new computer just to play those games. That’s why UT3 PC and Crysis have been selling so poorly. Nowadays people play games on consoles, not PC.

    I’m sure Norbit is going to argue that he played BioShock on his PC (I doubt it, but hey, if he said so,) and he going to make the gross assumption that everyone else would be willing to play the game on PC rather than 360. But seriously, how many people actually played it on the PC? Well, they are in the minority. The majority of gamers who do not have a PC that’s capable of running BioShock and want to play BioShock (and that’s really 80% of the case, according to sales numbers) would rather buy a 360 than a new PC or graphic card just to play the game.

    (By the way, Nobit’s next move: he’s going to demand this site banning me. Again. Yes, I’ve dealt with him on other sites before.)

    @Nordit:

    Microsoft announced at the CES that they’ve shipped (sold to retails) 17.7 million Xbox 360s.

    VG Chartz and (adjusted) NPD data reveal that Microsoft has sold 16.3 million Xbox 360s to consumers.

    If you use a little bit of common sense: That’s mean 90 percent of Xbox 360 were being sold through quickly.

    I visit my local Target, Wal-mart and Best Buy frequently (to look for a Wii.) The Wii is never there. Xbox 360 is sold out most of the time, so people couldn’t buy any even if they want one. On the other hand, anyone who wants a PS3 can buy a PS3: the store shelves are always full of them.

    And that is why PS3 is outselling Xbox 360 on a global basis: because Microsoft could not make more Xbox 360s to sell them. The PS3 is outselling Xbox 360 – simply because Sony is making more consoles than Microsoft is able to.

    And that is also the reason why Microsoft is not cutting Xbox 360 prices right now: because they can hardly keep up with the demand, why should they cut prices?

    This is like a while ago, the PS3 fans got so happy because the PS3 finally outsold the Wii in Japan for a month… well, turned out that the reason the PS3 was able to outsell the Wii is because Nintendo rerouted the supply from Japan to the West to meet Christmas demands. So even as all the Wiis were selling out in Japan, the PS3 were still outselling the Wii in November because Japanese could not get any Wii. All the Wiis had been shipped to the US and Europe. That’s the reason the PS3 outsold the Wii in November. What’s there to be happy about?

    Just to fill in with what’s already been posted.

    Microsoft had three suppliers/manufacturers for Xbox 360: Wistron, Celestica and Flextronics. (All Taiwanese.)

    Microsoft and Wistron “broke up” in October-November. Wistron supplied over 30-40 percent of Xbox 360s in the world. Wistron (preemptively) claimed that Microsoft pressured them to cut cost, and they refused and walked out. (I think the Taiwanese-Chinese called that as an effort to “save face”.) However, the rumors I’ve heard from some financial analysts suggested that Wistron was “sacked” because Microsoft finally traced most of the Red-Rings-of-Death consoles back to them…. Allegedly there’s more than just a “design issue” after all.

    Celestica and Flextronics are picking up the slacks right now. So basically Microsoft just lost a major Xbox 360 production line. Microsoft has not found a replacement yet. That happened back in November (a terrible timing and waste, Microsoft lost 30-40 percent of its production capacity for 360 just during the shopping season.)

    Of course, by some sheer coincidence, the end of November, the PS3 started to outsell Xbox 360, and Xbox 360 sales started stalling. Now, just connect the dots.

    Just google the keywords I’ve just provided here.

    At least in the local retail outlets I’ve visited, the Wii is the only console not on shelves right now. Both the PS3 and 360 are readily available in multiple SKU’s.

    As far as who will have the best year in 2008, I believe it will be the PS3. Why? Well, the 360 has already been on the market for 2 years. They’ve already sold through millions of the things. The PS3 is only now entering its second year on the market, and consoles traditionally sell the best in their second market year. Couple that with the exclusive titles, and the issues that MS is having with RRoD and XBox Live, and you have a prime opportunity for Somy to reclaim some of their lost market share. You also have to keep in mind that people who haven’t gone to a current console yet and are still playing PS2 have a vested interest (read as familiar exclusives) to hop up to the PS3.

    Still, it’s no sure thing. I expect both consoles to continue to sell well. Only one thing is near certain, and that’s that the PS3 will have a better year in 2008 than it did in 2007.

    Oh, and drop the fanboy rhetoric. When consoles compete, gamers win. That’s a good thing, folks.

    @ Nintendo boy

    You seriously think the PS3 is currently outselling the 360 because they cant make 360′s fast enough?

    THATS THE DUMBEST THING I HAVE EVER READ LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

    The PS3 is selling better than the 360 for the simple reason that the 360 isn’t very popular outside of America. According to you that’s because everyone is sold out but I just took a look at Amazon in the UK and in stock ready to ship for tomorrow they have the 20gb, the Elite, the Arcade and even a load of Halo 3 Limited Editions left over.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_pg_1?ie=UTF8&rs=&keywords=xbox%20360&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Axbox%20360&page=1

    That doesn’t really make any sense if there is a worldwide shortage does it? With this massive shortage you speak of it doesn’t make sense that Amazon have them in stock yet the highest 360 in their gaming chart is at #29;

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/videogames/ref=pd_ts_pg_2?ie=UTF8&pg=2

    The same is due on Play where they have all 4 of those in stock ready to ship;

    http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/3-/2524/2-/Promo.html?dpr=2524

    At Game they have the Premium, Elite and Arcade in stock ready to ship;

    http://www.game.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?lid=5789&cm_sp=x360hub-_-topnav-_-bundle

    Before you say this is just the UK that is lucky to escape the shortages I point you in the direction of Amazon in the US where they have 6 different 360 SKU’s currently in stock butt only one of them in the top 20;

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/videogames/ref=pd_ts_c_th_more?&pf_rd_p=304529601&pf_rd_s=right-5&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=468642&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1QA90P3PVQ04K7HWZNM4

    Not much of a shortage that I can see :lol:

    Every console except the 360 sells about twice as many units outside the US as it does in the US, the 360 however actually sells fewer units outside the US than it does at home.

    For example last week;

    Wii
    US – 188k
    Non US – 377k

    PS2
    US – 73k
    Non US – 154k

    PS3
    US – 68k
    Non US – 200k

    360
    US – 105k
    Non US – 101k

    @ KTchong

    I suggest you buy a dictionary and look up exclusive because you obviously have no idea what the word means. I have Gears of War and Bioshock yet I do not own a 360. HOW THE DOES THAT MAKE EITHER OF THOSE GAMES 360 EXCLUSIVES? Being only on the 360 in console form obviously is a plus for the system but that doesn’t somehow magically make the PC version not exist.

    BTW you followed me to Play Digital seemingly with the sole intention of waging a hate campaign against me. Your first posts on that site were completely unwarranted verbal attacks on me. I dont really know what your problem is but you obviously have issues. This and Play Digital are the only 2 gaming sites I post on so I have no idea what you are talking about when you say I’m trolling all over the place.

    Seeking Alpha has some transcripts from conference calls between Microsoft execs and investors, and they said Xbox 360 has been outselling PS3 in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, Asia (outside Japan), Latin American, and South America. Unless those execs lied to their investors or something.

    The only two places in which PS3 outsold Xbox 360 are Japan and part of continental Europe. Unfortunately, Japan + Continental EU add up can’t beat the US + Canada + Australia + Asia outside Japan + Latin American + South America.

    This isn’t Microsoft talking to their investors, its Microsoft PR men talking up the 360 to investment analysts. Its basically the same as Bill Gates saying the new 360 is the most reliable console made. They have sold more units in total in the UK and Australia but they are now being outsold by the PS3 on a weekly basis. The PS3 has actually sold something like twice as many units per week in its lifetime in Pal regions than the 360 has. Basically its selling twice as fast in those regions than the 360 did.

    Norbit

    On January 14, 2008 at 1:14 pm

    @ Korean Dude

    No disrespect to Korea but the home console market there is pretty much insignificant (we are talking a couple of thousand in a good a week). As of last August the 360 had only sold 133k in Korea. The numbers are included in the total shipment figures released by Sony @ Microsoft and factored from that.

    Korean Dude

    On January 14, 2008 at 1:21 pm

    Not just South Korea but the entire Asia outside Japan.

    China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, etc. All those markets combined.

    So the VGCharts supposedly said that the PS3 had been outselling Xbox 360 IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS (out of 52 weeks in one year)… but ONLY by a few thousand units. You put all those markets together, Xbox 360 would have a lead over the PS3.

    Heck, if you put South Korean numbers into there, Xbox 360 already overtook the PS3 in the past two weeks.

    The problem with those Chartz data is that they show the PS3 only has a few thousand units over Xbox 360, but they’re also missing so many regions. If you put all those regions in, the data would be very different.

    I remember back in early 2007, the PlayStation 3 was also poised to have a much bigger and attractive all-star game lineup than the Xbox 360. PS3 had Lair, Heavenly Sword, The Eye of Judgment, Ratchet & Clank Future, Uncharted… the list just goes on and on; and everyone was saying Xbox 360 only had Gears of War and nothing else. Up ’till E3 2007 and before fall 2007 actually arrived, everyone thought Lair, Heavenly Sword and all the other PS3 supposed “heavy hitters” of 2007 would bury Xbox 360.

    The 360 in my opinion will again come out with better games in 08. Frankly I dont really care who sells more as it has no direct impact to me at all. What I care about is games.

    The PS3 is all about harware. You got your bluetooth and Blu Ray but nothing to due with software. MS is a software company and have proven that there software is better, innovative, and more complete then the PS3. Examine the following:

    1. New gaming franchises:
    Gears of War, Too Human, Alan Wake, Halo Wars, Mass Effect, BioShock, etc. What exactly is anyone looking forward to the PS3 for? MGS4, FF13, Socom, Gran Turismo…they may be innovative in some way but they run along the lines of the same thing dont they?

    2. Integrative Gaming:
    The next step in gaming is online and multiplayer. I feel that this area will be dominated by the 360 and microsoft for a long time. They have spent way to much time and way to much money trying to perfect the service they offer. I have a PS3 and rarely do you catch me playing it online whereas I always play my 360 online.

    3. Several Unannounced Killer Apps
    I am a firm believer that 360 owners can expect several games that have yet to be announced. I can almost bet the KOTOR III, Killer Instinct 3, Gears of War 2, etc. all come out this year to combat Sonys impressive lineup.

    Personally, I feel that is MS continues to perfect its service and releases 3-5 great games they will again come out on top in terms of sales. Dont get me wrong I love my PS3 and have nothing against Sony but up until now I have seen nothing in terms of Software. I have low expectations for game releases this year coming from them. I think MGS4 will be the game of the year but beyond that I dont see anything that stellar. Killzone 1 was a bust, I own it so I no, FF13 doesnt really interest me as the last few have been bad, and LBP is not my type of game.

    MS will continue to position themselves this year to become the preimer gaming console.

    PS3 Will Be Stomped

    On February 2, 2008 at 3:28 pm

    :lol:

    Personally I don’t care for all this hyperbole, but the Playstation 3 will be stomped this year.

    The games of the moment are Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, Bioshock and new innovative franchises like Mass Effect.

    That’s not going to change when Final Fantasy 13 finally arrives either, as I can tell you the sales will be way behind previous installments.

    Fact is the industry is changing with all sorts of new games like Rock Band, and Splinter Cell Conviction (only on 360) will sell out as well. And these new franchises are what excite people more, things like Too Human the trilogy. Not the eightieth reincarnation of Gran Turismo 5, I’m sorry.

    The world doesn’t care about that stuff. And if we include South Korea, plus heavy hitter games like Blue Dragon 2 on top of it, the PS3 has been outsold by 360 even WHEN it was in stock for the entire year 2007 and will CONTINUE TO BE SO——- Into 2008 and beyond, with GTA4 and Warhound coming out along with more games such as Sacred 2: Fallen Angel. Halo Wars will be a system seller.

    well personlly i own a ps3 and i like the 360 better.in some ways the ps3 is better and some ways the 360. i just hate the wii. what game system has barely any mature games.the wii is a baby system.

    On March 2, 2008 at 8:48 am

    also ps3 will not be stomped.

    its not about systems its about games, so if u dont like ps3 gimme a reason and just dont say it sucks.and if u dont like a 360 that needs a reason too.same for thw wii.

    The PS3 is a better console and is better for the money, I can not deny that, but both the Wii and 360 are way more fun. Also the Wii is aimed more towards party play and family gaming than any other console, bringing a new generation of gamers into the mix. The 360 and PS3 are for dedicated gamers.

    If you care about statistics or you are a true gamer, the PS3 is your console but if you game for pure fun, there is nothing wrong with either the 360 or Wii. Each console is aimed at a different market and so none of them are rubbish.

    I own a 360 and it has worked great for me for the past year. The Halo franchise has been the best thing to happen to a console(s) since The Legend of Zelda franchise for Nintendo.

    But I must say, with the way the PS3 keeps dropping in price, it would look great in my living room as a blu-ray player.

    Why Xbox360 is BTR

    On April 11, 2008 at 3:04 pm

    What the hell are you Ps3 fanboys talking about?

    All the games you Ps3 fanboys list are CRAP CRAP CRAP!

    Heres a word that may burn your ears

    GEARS OF WAR 2

    MGS 4 may also be on the Xbox360 and the graphs some of you submitted with the Ps3 sales being better than the Xbox360 are again CRAP. All fake.

    ps3 ia going to own later but now its the 360

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Thats what you people said TWO YEARS AGO.
    The Next Gen is owned by the Xbox360 and will stay that way.
    Think….. Halo series……
    And why do Ps3 fanboys come to this discussion? Because they are afraid of the coming roar that the Xbox360 is bound to make in the year ’08
    Have fun Ps3 fans on you crappy umm…..Ps3 Live is it?
    People who think Xbox 360 will win this year have another thing coming. They got mainly Gears of War 2 on their side. The Halo series won’t serve much if not in first person (the RTS style looks bad). Anyway, many of the titles you listed are multiplatform anyway. Sure, the X360 has the lead now cause it was introduced a year earlier but the PS3 will gain a lot of momentum this year, and quite possibly, even out the odds. The other posters already discussed the PS3 titles this year. Plus, with the support of most movie corporations on Blu-Ray, PS3 will beat out the Xbox 360.
    On April 14, 2008 at 7:23 pm
    And to the ignorant fool “Why Xbox is better” let me say this: Halo series is all fine and dandy, but not when you rely your entire sales on it. And don’t even give me any garbage on how PS3 games are terrible. And, by the way, there is no way in hell MGS4 will go to the 360. So get your finger out of your ass, moron.
    I have to say Xbox 360 is way better than Xbox and i enjoy the 360. But ever since i started playing games, PlayStaion 1-2 were the best and i kno PS3 will make a comeback no matter what the odds r. I bet most people here had play the ps1 and ps2 and loved it and now brought an Xbox360. Whether is this year or next year or any year the ps3 soon gona be better than the 360 no doubt about it and most of u kno it.
    Do some people know what they’re talking about here you can’t compare these consoles good enough to say ones better then the other and one reason that can stand alone is the main game genre for each platform Think about it
    The 360 is usually more and action/ shooting game console mainly because of the trigger and the way the controls are set out to be
    Ps3 on the other hand is more like an rpg games are usually better on the ps3 cause this is what the game makers work more on for the ps3
    And last but not least the wii more of a party gaming system and for instance light headed fun and has always been that way
    So it comes down to you personal likings if you like shooting games you’re more likly then not to fanboy with the 360 same as for the other consoles.
    And I’m not saying that means something like 360 wont have any good rpg… of corse it will but its just the typical games are more of a similar genre
