15 vs 17 – Which is the Better Gaming Laptop Size?

Tom’s Hardware has an incredibly useful and thought-provoking review article up describing the pros and cons of the two primary laptop screen sizes. Most consumer gaming laptops tend to be either 15″ or 17″ in size and the site takes the time to spell out in very great detail the advantages of both form factors using MSI’s Gx640 and GX740.

The  main issues discovered in the article are portability vs. performance. To no one’s likely surprise, both systems provide good performance but the 15″ GX640  model edges out it’s larger brother thanks to weight, greater battery life and more universal size. The 17″ GX740 gains points as a superior media/entertainments system thanks to the larger display.

In the end the choice is what you’d expect – looking for more time unplugged? Go with the GX640. Want to watch movies and gain a bit of performance power for gaming? Go with the GX740.

More information about the GX640 and GX740 can be found on MSI’s website.
