EA Hints at New Player ID Technology

At the bitter end of EA’s Q1 2013 Investor conference call, CEO John Riccitiello dropped an intriguing hint: “We are building a technology platform to recognize each player with a unique ID, and to service them across multiple devices.” Given the company’s plans to expand its Origin digital download service onto iOS, this suggests that the company one day hopes to expand the platform’s orange tentacles onto all manner of devices, keeping track of players as they move from PC, to mobile, to social, to console, and then back again.

What say you, Game Front? Are you ready to be serviced across multiple devices? Riccitiello’s proposal sounds both convenient (if you play a lot of EA-owned titles) and icky (if you don’t want them recognizing you everywhere you go).

Already stopped buying EA games because they are not on Steam.

This won’t affect me one bit.

If Origin is any indication, whatever they have planned will be awful to use and cause more bugs than anything else.

Instead of giving them your email address, all you need to do is give them your Social Security number. Then you dont have to be bothered by EA’s nickle and dime tactics as they’ll just be able to take the money directly out of any bank account or pay check directly giving you the peace of mind knowing youre being screwed by such an excellent service.

Recognise us with a unique ID and track our online activities, anyone else getting a `Big Brother´ vibe from them?

I am with the many, many others and do not care less what they do, I stopped supporting the company with my custom long ago.
