2 New GTA V Screenshots, Still No Release Date

Look, Rockstar, everyone knows GTA V is coming out sometime in the next 7 months. Why else would Take Two list among their projected fiscal year earnings approximately $450m from an unspecified Rockstar game that isn’t listed? Why else have they carved out a huge window in the 2012 holiday season?

Unless… maybe they’re trolling? Perhaps! Maybe there’s actually never going to be a game called Grand Theft Auto V, and this is all nothing but a subtle viral marketing campaign for a GTA-related product called Libertymore? It would be both brilliant and infuriating.

Anyway, for some reason Rockstar has quietly released two new screenshots from what they’re claiming is Grand Theft Auto V. And they do indeed look great. The one at the top shows what is clearly downtown Los Santos, the game’s setting, assuming it’s actually coming out. And below, a little less clear but I’m guessing it’s near the ocean and will be a parody of Marina Del Rey, though some sites I’ve read have suggested it might be a parody of the Silver Lake reservoir. Whatevs, it looks great.

So, yeah. Why not just tell us when the game is coming out already?

If they never got around to fixing the way the vehicles handled I’m probably going to just steer clear of this one too.

Here, here. Hated IV, unless they go back to the S.A. formula, I’ll stay away from this one too. Lost faith in Rockstar long ago. They still haven’t put R.D.R. on computer. Nope. I’ld say 80 to 90% chance of rain on this parade. Here’s to hoping I’m wrong. Would love to get an actual good successor to S.A., and not the garbage that was IV.

It’s really refreshing to read both of your comments. I think there’s a lot in IV that’s excellent, but you’re so right about vehicle handling, ESPECIALLY motorcycles which were the best in SA and Vice City. IV was also frustrating for its botched story (which didn’t become apparent until the last 5 missions or so), and for the fact that eventually, while the universe is great and the setting hilarious, the game itself is so overserious that it ceases to be fun.

The Ballad of Tony restored a little of Rockstar’s sense of humor, however. Too bad it didn’t inject it back into the main game.

And anyway, yes, SA is the pinnacle of the entire GTA series, and my excitement for V is largely due to my hope that it will be a return to that forumla rather than another so-gritty-it’s-boring game.

Also, the comments censor is making it look like I wrote “the ballad of tony”. Rest assured I did not.
