3D Mark 11 Announced, Gamers Everywhere Get Upgrade Envy

Gamers like to measure things, especially the performance of their gaming rigs. 3D Mark Vantage and 3DMark 06 specialize in measuring DirectX 10 and 9 performance but with DirectX 11 beginning to make a splash on the PC scene in Windows 7 the suite seems to be getting an upgrade. This video shows off one demo the program uses to evaluate video card performance under DirectX 11.

Even if you’re not writing a hardware review its often fun just to run the demo versions of these programs to get an idea of how cool your aging PC is and if nothing else, the demos often push the hardware more than any current video game out there – demonstrating graphics that will become the norm in 2-3 years.

You can find out more about 3D Mark 11 on its website and the program is scheduled for a release in the third quarter of 2010. Futuremark also offers a number of other benchmark programs along with a “can you run it?” style adviser at its website.
