3D Super Meat Boy Prototype Being Ransomed for Charity

Here’s a story you don’t read every day — a game is being held for ransom. Super Meat Boy Galaxy is a prototype for a 3D version of Super Meat Boy , created by Aubrey Hesselgren as a 30th birthday present for one of Super Meat Boy’s programmers. Hesselgren has announced that he is holding this prototype ransom in order to raise £10k for the The Samaritans charity. The ransom note is pictured above.

Hesselgren described the prototype as “just a bit of a throw away experiment. It was never intended as a “pitch” to make such a game,” but has hinted that he will probably release the prototype even if the £10k goal isn’t reached. He went on to say:

“Bear in mind that this is a prototype, and as such will not be as friendly and polished as a final game. Its main purpose was to investigate whether Super Meat Boy’s kinaesthetically pleasing platforming physics could survive the leap to 3D, given the right camera and level layouts.”
