Shocker: the Xbox 360 and Halo: Reach Sell Well

As they usually are, Microsoft is rolling in dough at the end of Q1 2011, which came to a close on September 30. They reported $16.2 billion in revenue for the quarter, which they say is pretty high. And a not-insignificant portion of that revenue comes from the gaming side of the company, as they said on their post-quarter earnings call that Halo: Reach earned $350 million worldwide for the company in September alone, with much of that coming from U.S. gamers.

On top of that, the post-quarter earnings press release had this bit: “Xbox 360 consoles grew 38%, outselling every competing console in the U.S. for each of the past four months.” That 38% growth over the same quarter last year represents, wait for it, 2.8 million consoles. Considering that sexy-as-f**k new 360 S came out during that period, so the beatdown shouldn’t be too surprising.

[joke about this that I can't seem to come up with right now]
