Do you remember when the Sega Genesis was supposed to be better than the Super Nintendo? Ah, yes, the 16-bit wars.
The best part of my night tonight, and trust me it hasn’t been wonderful, was coming across 411mania.com’s collection of video game ads over the years. Well, I shouldn’t say collection, more like a list of the most representative ads on YouTube from when television advertisements for video games really started becoming a common occurrence.
The ad above, for instance, was probably my most favorite Nintendo ad made, ever. It involved the song “So Happy Together” and ended in hilarity. Plus, I loved Super Smash Bros. even in its first incarnation.
Although, one could argue that they definitely missed out on some of the best Nintendo ads out there which were made back in the late 80′s. Those were gold, absolutely gold. Does anyone out there besides me remember the weird, coked-out performance artist doing interpretive dances of Zelda?

Cor, I remember that Smash Bros. advert when it first came out actually. Things like that you don’t forget in a hurry.
