A First Person Shooter Version Of GTA IV. Awesome.

Grand Theft Auto IV is, no doubt, one of the greatest games ever made. It richly deserved the endless fawning, including that perfect 10 IGN threw at it before they gave themselves time to think about the fact that no, wait, actually GTA IV is kind of a disappointing let down. NOTE to Rock*: Next time, make it possible to actually enjoy the ending of the game, mmk?

The crummy, catharsis-free ending aside, GTA IV really is an incredible game. Its version of Liberty city is one of the most amazing, fully realized gaming environments every created (despite the fact that it has far more “irrelevant space” than promised), and it’ll be years before someone tops it. But how much better would it have been if you got to berate Roman from first person POV? As it turns out, it’s extremely much better. Modder C06alt put this together and the results speak for themselves:

I have admit that as much as FPS play gives me a headache, it actually enhances the visceral feel of 2008′s version of Liberty City. Combat’s got to be wonkier though – I can’t imagine that GTA IV’s cover system works exactly as designed in first person. But still, amazing. If only we do this for Republican Space Rangers, then life would be complete.
