A Game of Thrones – Genesis: Official Trailer

A Game of Thrones: Genesis seeks to capitalize on the popularity of the HBO series based on George R. R. Martin’s awesome fantasy novels, but based on this footage, does so poorly. It begins far into the series backstoryand covers 1000 years of the series’ history, from wwhen dragons still roamed the world and the Targaryen kings still ruled Westeros with an iron fist (and plenty of rapey-molestationism) to, presumably, when Robert Baratheon overthrew them. So don’t count on reenacting the war of the five kings or anything like that.

Further ramming home that this game isn’t (as far as I’ve been able to find out) affiliated with the HBO series is the generic score in this trailer. It’s sad they couldn’t have used the TV series’ excellent theme song. Anyway, to be honest this kind of looks like a generic fantasy RTS. What do you think?

It’d be cool if it could replicate some of the History of Game of Thrones in a kind of Total War fashion with maybe a little heavier emphasis on characters and politics, but I think you’re right: the trailer looks like its a generic rts. Let’s hope it’s better than that.

You know I tried getting into the first book but only made it about 3/4 of the way threw it and stopped, then the HBO series came out and I decided to jump into book 2 and now I have finish all the current released books in the series and I’m really quite annoyed by the author.

A Song of Ice and Fire is definitely not my cup of tea especially after all my favorite Character have died leaving the story to be bland and boring, so screw it. I would be much more happy with Wheel of Time or Way of Kings video game, or any other fantasy book Iv had the pleasure of reading.

Also did I mention theirs way way way too much sex in ice and fire, if you take all the sex scenes from the entire series you could have almost half a books worth, damn crap gets old.

Things I really liked in this HBO series..

1.) it’s not often a movie-series turns out to be the perfect visual compliment to what many consider to be the gold standard for epic fantasy writing…but this does. It captures the atmosphere, the subtle edginess, those brutal, unexpected moments; it really does grasp the mood and essence of the book.

2.) in addition to presenting a riveting tale, the production gives us acting that brings the books’ characters to life in realistic settings.

3.) a computer enhanced animated map is shown as a short cut scene at the start of each episode. Giving those of us familiar with the books a brief refresher and those new to the series a sense of the geography, direction and distances.

4.) a pulsating, musical score to start each episode that perfectly fits the heraldic spirit of this story.

HBO has done a wonderful job making this first book (Game of Thrones), into a first rate TV series. 5 Stars.

Have a nice day,
Franny
