The dimensional-jumping in Super Paper Mario really is awesome. And apparently Wired Magazine thinks so, too.
It’s actually a pretty unique turn for a side-scroller to take, and so Super Paper Mario falls in with the Wii’s attempt to reinvent gaming. The Wired commentary starts with the allusion to Flatland, where a fictional square-being is taken from a two-dimensional realm to a three-dimensional one, where it proceeds to freak out, but in a good way.
It will be interesting to see what Nintendo and other third party developers do with the console’s capability, seeing as how it doesn’t have a whole lot to offer in terms of graphics. They made a good move with Paper Mario, though.
