AAA PC Mecha Game “Heavy Gear Assault” Announced

MekTek Studios, best known for its work on MechWarrior 4, is developing a free-to-play AAA mech dueling game: Heavy Gear Assault — a new installment in the Heavy Gear tabletop and video game franchise, for those in the know.

Heavy Gear Assault will have players dueling in gladiatorial arenas, and their winnings can be invested in more advanced mechs (called Gears), weapons and equipment. As you can expect from a good mech game, HGA features heavy customization with respect to weapon loadout and paint schemes.

The game utilizes a dynamic destruction engine that shows visible damage to Gears and the environment and allows players to damage specific parts of an enemy to reduce their effectiveness in various ways. While the game is set to launch with a free-to-play business model with microtransactions and an optional subscription plan, the devs insist that purchases will not affect game balance.

Check out the teaser video:

The devs have started a crowdfunding campaign; if they reach their lofty $900,000 goal, they will finish development on and release a PvP version of the game. If they are crowdfunded up to $10M, the game will also include Single Player and Co-op military campaigns expansions outside of the Arenas as well as Single Player and Co-op PvE.

Gotta say, after reading your description of the game I was interested. After watching that lame excuse for a teaser trailer my interest disappeared.

They are going to have to do better than that if they want me contributing to the crowdfunding.
