AC: Unity Trailer Presents 11 Minutes of Gameplay
Ubisoft has been releasing Assassin’s Creed games on an annual basis for some time now, so perhaps you’re assuming there isn’t much difference between them anymore.
On the contrary, outside of the co-op mode that’s replacing traditional multiplayer, a newly release 11-minute gameplay trailer shows several new mechanics to enjoy in Assassin’s Creed: Unity. While parkour-based assassination roots remain proudly on display, there’s also a new stealth system in place and a “black box” assassination style.
The black box refers to how objectives are completed in Assassin’s Creed: Unity, specifically that they can completed by whatever method a player chooses. That doesn’t sound so different from a “sandbox style,” but here how a mission is completed can open up sub-missions that impact your progress. For example, eavesdropping on an NPC instead of killing them can reveal additional information about a target that the player might find useful.
The stealth system, meanwhile, can be activated at any time, silencing Creative Director Alexandre Amancio’s footsteps in the video as he plays, and letting him hide behind less cover. The parkour system has also been updated to provide additional movement options, such as choosing different “running paths” at any given moment. It sounds promising so far, and you can expect more details to be revealed before launch day on Oct. 28, 2014.
