Acer Upgrades Predator Gaming PC

acer-predatorGaming PCs are a boutique purchase. Alienware, Dell, Falcon, it doesn’t matter where you buy from they all cost a pretty penny but Acer is not a name I automatically associate with a gaming system. Last year, Acer released its Predator Extreme Gaming Desktop and it quickly caught some eyes thanks to the unique case design.

This update to the series brings the system into the modern age of computing by including DirectX 11 video hardware and a Core i7 processor for $2000. While its not a customizable build like Alienware or Falcon offers it does look like a good shelf price. Full specs after the jump.

Acer Predator AG7750-U2222 Extreme Gaming Desktop comes with these specs:

  • Intel Core i7-930 Processor 2.8GHz with Turbo Boost Technology up to 3.06GHz
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Intel X58 Express Chipset + ICH10R
  • 12GB DDR3 Memory
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX470 Graphics Card with 1280MB Discrete Video Memory
  • 1.5TB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Multi-in-1 Digital Media Card Reader
  • High-Definition Audio Support with 7.1-channel Audio Support, THX+EAX
  • 11 – USB 2.0

You can order the Predator from Amazon or other online retailers.

Acer is complete and utter garbage. I bought one of their home desktops last year and stuck my 4870 in it from my recently then fried computer. Very unhappy with there name and i will never buy anything from them ever again no matter what the quality.

What i ended up getting from them was a crappy machine that i had to replace everything and finally took all those pieces and remade my gaming pc. I wish they had put on their box that the motherboard has locked bios. The ram was running at 400 mhz not 800. The power supply was so weak it couldn’t fire my4870 or my previous generation 3870.

For the same price as that damned thing i got a phenom 2 x4 955, 4 gigs of 1066 ram, Asus 870 motherboard, Ultra x3 700 watt power supply, a 5770 video card, and a HAF 932 full tower case.

Moral of this story? NEVER EVER buy premade computers. Even if they are gaming ones. Yeah alien ware and this new acer computer have a nice case, but you are paying about 1000$ too much for this computer. For half the price you can get a faster clocked quad core from AMD. The 965 which is 3.4 ghz is only 180$ on newegg. Just go to http://www.newegg.com and price it all out.
