Activision: AAA Games Are Important, Social and Mobile Games Are Not

EA has plenty of games I can download for my iPad. Activision has none. What’s up with that? Here’s what’s up with that.

“The biggest titles in the industry continue to generate a disproportionate percentage of the profits and revenues,” said Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg on a call with investors. “While the hardware install base continues to grow and show strength, gamers continue to spend more and more time and money with the few must-have games. For these reasons, we feel our strategy continues to be very well aligned with the market opportunity.”

I think that about says it all. Basically, “We make a s–tload of cash off games like Black Ops that cost 60 bucks a pop, so why would we make games that cost $3 to buy?”

OK.

Quiteey’ frankly I am glad they don’t make $3 apps, because while they would probably make s-loads off of those sales on title/name alone too, they’d still be s- just like their $60 MW’s and BO’s and their 3-4 $15 DLC map packs.
