Activision Says 6.5M Modern Warfare 3 Copies Sold on Day 1 in North America, UK

Activision is reporting that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has shattered sales records, bringing in more than $400 million in sales in just North America and the UK in the first 24 hours the game was available. That’s 6.5 million copies sold in those two markets.

The information comes by way of a press release from Activision Blizzard, stating that MW3 has broken the record set by Call of Duty: Black Ops last year with its $360 million in sales, and eclipsed Modern Warfare 2′s sell-through mark for Day One by $90 million.

The release also says that Activision donated $3 million to Veterans Day

Activision announced this morning that in support and gratitude for the efforts of American servicemen and women, this Veterans Day it donated $3 million to the Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit, public benefit corporation that seeks to provide job placement and training for veterans. This latest donation will be added to the $2 million that Activision has already donated to the Endowment, which has provided more than $1.5 million in grants and scholarships to veterans’ organizations across the country since it was conceived by Bobby Kotick in November of 2009

6.5m sad bastards in the world then… oh dear whats this world coming to. BUY SOMETHING UNIQUE! Not a repeat of other MW games and every other FPS game that exists. Haven’t we all had enough of shooting Taliban’s, terrorists & iraqs? Grow up America so what they raped you back in 2001 and have more oil then you. Fight someone else.

If you think – Medal of Honor (2010), Modern Warfare (series), Battlefield 3 (and many other franchises)all against the middle east etc… all the same kind of story… all the same moves and action and what made them big franchises? it was back at the start of the franchises, when they were unique. They all seem the same. GTAV is gonna be the same its always in America why not a different contry everything is the same these days. And you get people buying this just because its a sequel or the next one in the franchise. Get a life people and get some new developers and publishers who have some imagination.

1 definition of unique FPS: BIOSHOCK! not just shooting weapons you seen hundreds of times before, location – okay a little too much for a war game fps but its new, story with a big twist you can understand easy with good characterisation etc. Good game back in the day – different!

Wanna make an different fps? set a different storyline with different enemies, different era (not saying have to go back to WW2 but they were amazing periods with unknown histories)- we don’t wanna shot afgan’s/iraq’s or terrorists for the rest of gaming history. And use Next Gen engines and API’s unlike this piece of game (just a reskin of MW2) The graphics put the pc to shame using out of date DX9 and even the consoles can be improved a bit even Black Ops updated the API on the PC to DX10 may not be DX11 but its a fookin start!

Hey ScrewTheConsole, you’re obviously too poor to afford an Xbox. Or . Or both.

No i just dont waste money on games especially on the aged xbox or ps3 id rather spend it on expensive pc parts for graphically better pc games. Plus xbox/ps3 (WHICH I DO OWN – so im not talking out of my arse) – compare the quality you get CLOSE UP of the console games and pc. PC better AA, texture improvements, improved shaders, HIGH FRAMERATES especially if you connect a 120hz monitor which i have and so much more. Im just too tight to spend money on new games for aged consoles and other then that MW is a game to be pirated if im so desperate to play it WHICH I AM NOT. all my money goes on unique games. By the sounds if you only own the console (no gaming pc) you are the one who cant afford the higher graded material and rather spend less money on the h/w but spend £40/$60 on games which wont last you very long.

Perspective

Estimated total world population is 6,974,100,000 represents 100% (we need global MW3 sales data)

US current estimated population is 312,587,000 and represents 4.48% of the above total world population.

The NPD Group has estimated that 63% of the U.S. population plays video games.

63% of the US population possibly being gamers, = 196,929,810 gamers.

UK current estimated population is 62,300,000 and represents 0.89% of the above total world population.

Newzoo.com data estimates that 52% of the UK population plays video games.

52% of the UK population possibly being gamers = 32,396,000 gamers

196,929,810 US gamers + 32,396,000 UK gamers = 229,325,810 gamers UK and US combined.

229,325,810 gamers UK and US combined – (minus) MW3 units sold 6,500,000 = still potentially 222,825,810 gamers and non loyal MW3 fans in the UK,US to hate MW3. That is really good news!

MW3 sales pre-order estimates, sales predictions and sales estimates, = Activision just staying in the media lime light for free advertising “look at us” trying to sell the units to those
remaining 222,825,810 US, UK and the rest of the world.
