Activision the #1 Publisher So Far This Year
Thanks almost entirely to the major success of Guitar Hero III – along with a healthy dosage of Call of Duty 4 – Activision has been the number one console and handheld publisher in the US for the first eleven months of 2007. The company saw an incredible increase in market share, up to 16.8% from 7.9% over the same period last year.
A press release issued by Activision cites various NPD numbers, including Guitar Hero being the best selling franchise of the year. In November they saw Guitar Hero III and Call of Duty 4 rank as the #1 and #2 best selling games across all platforms in terms of actual money, as well as five of the top-10.
“We continue to see strong consumer response to our wholly owned and internally developed titles — Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare,” said Robert Kotick, Chairman and CEO, Activision, Inc. “We are well positioned to continue our leadership position through the remainder of the year and are on track to delivering another record year of revenue growth and the most profitable year in our history.”
Now just imagine what they’ll do once they’re partnered up with Vivendi.
