Age of Conan is now Free-To-Play

Following, it seems, every single MMO and a great deal of first-person shooters, Age of Conan developer Funcom has taken the fantasy MMO into free-to-play territory, offering players the ability to play the game for nothing and with no obligation. Start up a free account by heading right here.

The setup works like every other F2P game out there in that you get a little bit for free and there’s a lot of optional stuff you can pay for, like armor, weapons and whatever Premium Content happens to be. If you already play AoC, you can also just keep going on with your subscription as you’ve been doing, and you’ll continue to receive full access to everything without any restrictions.

And for those of us who choose to go the free route, there are, in fact, restrictions. Much like the F2P option for World of Warcraft, free accounts are limited to two character slots and four classes. Free players also are limited to one zone in AoC’s Rise of the Godslayer expansion, although everybody gets full access to the Hyborian Adventures set. Free players get only half the bank space that subscribing players get, and subscribers get cheaper rates in the in-game store; and a mess of content, like sieges, offline levels and veteran points aren’t available for free players.

So yeah, maybe if you’re a giant AoC fan, free isn’t the route you’ll want to go — but if you’re new to the game or you’re okay with kicking around in one section of it, FunCom’s offering quite a bit with no commitment and no charge.

The free to play model is not good for this game because they still have limitations and it sucks.
