Age of Wonders 3 Delayed to Early 2014, Will Appear at Gamescom

Anyone hoping to play a true sequel to Age of Wonders 2 will have to wait for a few months longer, as the developers of Age of Wonders 3 announced today that the game has been delayed to early 2014. Triumph Studios made the statement on the game’s official forums.

The Markus “Notch” Persson-backed game (via Eurogamer) was originally slated for a Fall 2013 release, but has since been pushed back to early 2014 for the simple reason that the game needs more polish.

According to community manager Jimmy van der Have, the studio is going to take the additional time to continue developing the game and making sure it delivers an experience that’s up to par (if not better than) its predecessors, which were critically acclaimed turn-based strategy offerings.

“When announcing the game earlier in the year we’ve listed a projected release date of ‘fall’ 2013,” wrote van der Have. “We immediately got questions on this, whether this would be fall in the southern or northern hemisphere, and when pre-orders would start.

“We’ve made great progress developing the game and feel now is the time to give you heads up that we will take a bit more time creating all the features and content. Age of Wonders 3 is the largest game in the series and with the additional polish we hope we can give you an even better experience!”

Age of Wonders 3 will make an appearance at Gamescom later this year prior to its launch in the first quarter of next year. Exclusive to the PC, the game was shown off earlier this year at GDC, footage of which can be seen below.
