Akaneiro Kickstarter Gets Fully Funded, Now Available On PC
Developed by American McGee (best known for his game, Alice) and Spicy Horse, Akaneiro is an action RPG in the same vein as Diablo with a Japanese sumi-e aesthetic. In case you’re wondering what that looks like—it’s like Okami. Here’s a small description of the game and what it’s about:
“Akaneiro: Demon Hunters will transport you to a world realized in a striking visual style inspired by Japanese ink, watercolor and woodblock illustration. We’ve dug deep into the history and folklore of Japan when designing our scenarios and characters. Mixing this foundation with an original mythology inspired by Red Riding Hood yields a fantastic and inspiring setting for players to explore.”
The developers sought to use Kickstarter to fund the iOS and Android versions of the game. For awhile, the Kickstarter didn’t look like it was going to meet its goal of $200,000, which has since been met with only 6 hours left on the clock. The funds collected from Kickstarter will be put towards the development of the iOS and Android versions of the game, as well as towards features like co-op multiplayer and equipment crafting for all versions.
There’s still time to donate to the Kickstarter and snag some of the goodies, which includes a Gabe Newell-inspired Karakuri mechanized puppet pal who follows you in-game. The release of the puppet was spurred on by their Greenlight status, which should see the game released on Steam in the not-too-distant future.
In the meantime, you can participate in the free-to-play open beta of Akaneiro.
