Alan Wake PC vs. 360 Comparison Screens


Remedy’s Alan Wake PC port doesn’t hit until tomorrow, but the developers have given us an early look at the new version’s fancy graphics, in hopes of luring in more customers. Check out the shots below to see how sharper textures and higher resolutions improve the look of the game. It may not be Alan Wake 2, but its certainly cool! In case it isn’t clear, the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th images are the PC screens.

Obviously the PC version running at much higher resolution is looking crisper but in certain scenes, I think Xbox version benefits from additional softness and fog. It kinda makes it feel more dream-like, and hides the rough edges of the visuals. Haven’t played the PC version yet, but that’s the impression I got from video head-to-heads.

On the last screenie you can see some very clear aliasing on the fuel-pump platform, which the softening filter on the camera cannot hide.

It’s strange, most if not all console games seem to have this problem with aliasing, maybe it’s the low resolution or lack of AA, but I wonder why this is? Do devs think players can’t see this when sitting so far away from their tv’s? At least this is one console port where they aren’t just copy/pasting, hopefully we’ll also get a lot of options with the graphics too!
