Aliens: Colonial Marines Writer Disowns Awful Trailer

Yesterday, Sega released another trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines, further illustrating that Sega has no idea what it is about Aliens that people like.

So they added dubstep. Like, a lot of dubstep.

The voice-over dialog of the trailer, delivered (poorly) by some disembodied commanding officer, highlights the disconnect. He talks about the Colonial Marines’ potential badassery, how they’re all too crazy and awesome to just bail on this LV-426 mission that will almost certainly mean their deaths, and how they have All The Guns and so the game is going to be kick ass.

That’s right. Hudson’s speech about being ultimate bad-asses is what makes that movie compelling. Not the fact that the ultimate bad-asses are immediately gutted.

Anyway, it seems the trailer is a bit of marketing and maybe not indicative of the final game, because writer Mikey Neumann took to Twitter to disown it (likely after receiving much scorn and backlash). The tweet has since been removed, but Rock Paper Shotgun nabbed a screenshot of it (thanks, guys!):

Check out the trailer below. Are you guys as worried about this game as I am, as an Aliens fan?

Anyway, you can download the trailer here.

You know what would make a wicked ‘Aliens’ game? A survival-horror based on Newt’s week in ‘open-world’ LV-426 with stealth as core gameplay. Isn’t there a game just like that already?…

0h good, I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought this trailer was terrible. This trailer totally gave the wrong vibe about aliens. Its trailers like this that make me worry the game is going to turn out bad. I am a huge aliens fan, so im really hoping this game turns out good.

Sega is publishing it, of course you should be worried. Every Asian publisher that gets a hold of western franchises and turns them to .

Look at what Square did to Deus Ex and Supreme Commander.

So who gave it the OK to release it?

Is it just me, or is there a big quality difference between certain clips? Like they’re switching from Consoles to PC constantly.

I recut the trailer and put the James Horner audio over the top. Seems to have gone down well.

At the very least, it sounds like the Aliens game I always wanted to play:

See what you think.
