All of Tamriel Is In Skyrim

So this is interesting. One intrepid PC gamer has taken upon himself to noclip and fly around the world in Skyrim, and what do you know? It seems that the entire landmass of Tamriel is built into Skyrim, though it’s mostly devoid of features and it’s all pretty low res. For a bunch of pictures of this, check out this tumblr.

So what could the point of all this be? We’ve been told that Skyrim has hefty DLC coming, as we would expect, and so maybe that will let us travel into, say, Morrowind, which is just to the east of Skyrim. Or maybe it’s to help out modders who want to build new locations outside the world. Or maybe it’s something else entirely. Either way, it kinda feels cool that they did this. I don’t really know why.

This is awesome and I can only speculate they did this to help them in the map creation process and to also assist in realizing the world from thought to creation.

I would guess that its to help with the LOD from high points (like the peak of the Throat of the World), with people who have uber-high rigs. I heard that you can see the White Gold Tower from there, if you have your settings high enough.

The rest of Tamriel was built purely for long viewing distance. Rest of the areas outside of Skyrim are just height maps. Serve no purpose beyond that. Of course though once the creation kit comes out people can go off the height maps to properly setup the land masses in those areas.

It’s nice to see that they put so much time into an empty land mass and no time into trying to release a mostly bug free game.
