Alleged Watch Dogs Poster Leaked, Suggests Holiday 2013 Release Date

An alleged promotional poster for Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs surfaced over the weekend, which purports that the game is set for a “holiday 2013″ release on “all home consoles”.

The promotional poster, which first popped up at Kotaku, suggests that the game will be released on current, and possibly next-generation consoles. Thus far, the game has only been confirmed for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

The possible release of the game on next-generation platforms doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch if they can build a next-gen port from the PC version of the game, which is expected to see higher resolution graphics than its current-gen console counterparts. When Watch Dogs was first announced at E3 last year, Ubisoft previewed a PC build of the game to highlight its visuals and the density of its urban setting.

In any case, you can take a look at the poster below, which boasts “over 80 E3 awards and nominations” and features the game’s main character staring at the wireframe of the city.

It should be noted that the poster seems legitimate as it shows the game’s protagonist at an angle he’s never been featured in before in any previous artwork for the game. Beyond that, there’s no reason why anyone would want to make a hoax for the game consisting of little more than a highly detailed poster. As it is with all rumors, I suggest taking it with a grain of salt.

From time to time there should be a rant about gaming journalism vs. speculation.
