AM3 Preps DSVision for Launch

dsvision-logo.jpgAM3 has officially announced the DSVision service, which will allow users to download movies, television shows, books, and manga by PC for their DS. AM3, licensed by Nintendo, is partnering with Dai Nippon to bring the service online in Japan next year.

DSVision is a PC-based distribution platform. The kit, consisting of a USB reader/writer and a 512MB Micro SD card, will be available in January. It will allow users to purchase content from the DSVision website, download it to a PC, and transfer it to the Micro SD card for use in the Nintendo DS handheld.

The kits will hit the market in January retailing for 3,890 Yen, or approximately USD 37; and the download service itself should launch in March.

Although there will only be 300 titles at launch, AM3 expects to expand to 10,000 titles by 2010. No information was given about how the titles break down into categories or if DS games will eventually be available for download as well.

With Nintendo just having announced that the DS has broken the all time sales record set by its predecessor the Game Boy Advance, DSVision seem like a solid move. I’ll be waiting for a similar service here in the U.S.
