AMD Kills ATI Brand, Radeon Lives On

Well, the Nvidia vs. ATI debate is finally solved! (Kinda)

AMD officially abolished the ATI name and has begun the process of remarking all its’ graphics cards with its corporate name. This move is not really a big surprise, since increasingly ATI and AMD were interchangeable titles and the GPU technology is quickly becoming hybrid CPU/GPU technology.AMd says that the cards currently on the market will continue to be branded ATI (including the Radeon 5000 series) so if you’re married tot he name you have a little while to pick up a card with the old logo intact.

Starting “laterĀ  this year” you can buy the re-branded Radeon and Crossfire lines at retail. The cards in the boxes will be the same quality and design though, this is merely a marketing change.

Awww… erm, well, this is weird news. I’ve never understood corporate name-changes, a lot of effort goes into it with no return. Ah well, so long as it’s the same people and the same company then it’ll still be awesome graphics cards!
