Analyst Predicts 6 Million Day-1 Sales for Modern Warfare 3
Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia has predicted that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will sell “5.5M-6.0M unit[s]…on day 1 and nearly 18M units in the December quarter.”
If that day-1 part happens, it will mean Modern Warfare 3 will set the new record for the single biggest entertainment launch in history, beating out…itself, sort of. 2010′s Call of Duty: Black Ops is the current title holder, coming in at an already-mind-boggling 5.6 million units sold for $360 million in its first 24 hours.
Before that, the record was held by–you guessed it–Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, earning $310 million (4.7 million copies) on day 1.
Here’s the whole quote from Bhatia:
We expect MW3 to grow 10% versus last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops, which has sold through more than 25 million units life-to date. We expect 5.5M-6.0M unit sales of MW3 on day 1 and nearly 18M units in the December quarter.
Game Front readers: what would you do with $360 million big ones?
NOTE: It’s important to note that those Black Ops numbers that everyone circulated last November were citing just the U.S. + U.K. figures, but these new numbers from Sterne Agee don’t specify whether they mean global or what. I mean, they must mean U.S. + U.K., just so we’re comparing apples to apples, here. I assume they’re doing their job right.
