Analyst Projects COD: Black Ops Sales Will Hit 12 Million; Fewer Than Modern Warfare 2

black ops Activision and a market analyst expect Call of Duty: Black Ops to hit 12 million sales on all consoles and and fall well short of Modern Warfare 2′s 16 million sales to date.

GameSpot reports Pacific Crest Securities analyst Evan Wilson says Black Ops preorders are already on-pace to surpass those of MW2 last year. Despite all those sales, Black Ops will be hampered by “competition, weaker marketing, and the Infinity Ward situation.”

Tensions between Infinity Ward, the makers of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and Activision are part of the reason for lost sales. There have been lawsuits between Activision and Infinity Ward cofounders Jason West and Vince Zampella after they were fired. After they left, lots of other staffers from Infinity Ward departed to work with them, or were laid off as well.

Regardless, only time will tell if the figures can be turned around before Black Ops drops on Nov. 11. The trailer is something to get excited about and Activision still has plenty of time to boost the game‘s profile.
