Analyst Thinks We’ll See Xbox 360, Playstation 3 Drop in Price at E3
According to an analyst at Webbush Securities, if you’re in the market for a new Playstation 3 or Xbox 360, you might want to wait until the first week of June.
That’s when analyst Michael Pachter expects both Sony and Microsoft will lower the prices of their aging consoles, according to a story from CVG. Sony is currently floundering and Pachter pegs their sales losses at between 10 and 20 percent each month, but both sales of both consoles are slowing considerably. Pachter thinks that to counter that trend, the console makers are going to slice prices.
But that’s not because he expects a new console to pop up at E3, Pachter said. Instead, he thinks it’ll be about this time next year before Microsoft announces the next edition to its hardware — once the Xbox 360 falls below $200. He didn’t mention when he thought Sony might start talking about the next Playstation iteration.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has said pretty much flat-out that it won’t be announcing new hardware at E3, or anytime soon.
