Angry Birds Rio and Valentine Will Be Free – Rejoice Now
Rovio Mobile’s upcoming tie-in game with Fox’s upcoming animated bird film Rio will be free when it hits the iTunes App Store and Android Market in March.
Angry Birds Rio will be some kind of Angry Birds variation title, although Rovio said in a Twitter post that the game would be fundamentally Angry Birds — that’s why it’s called Angry Birds Rio. From the graphic up there, that leads me to believe it’ll include Rio‘s bird characters in the Angry Birds framework.
While there will be at least one version of Angry Birds Rio that’s free (to promote the movie, one assumes), Rovio has mentioned multiple versions of the game. That suggests it’ll probably come in a free “lite” version with fewer levels, which is a model Angry Birds is using in the iTunes App Store right now. That version will likely be ad-supported, as well. I’d wager the other versions will be a $0.99 full version, and possibly a more Rio-heavy version that replaces the standard Angry Birds characters with additional Rio characters, or something to that effect. We don’t have details just yet, though.
In between now and March, Rovio is also releasing another free level pack for Angry Birds Seasons for Valentine’s Day. That one will also be free and is expected on Feb. 14, as seems obvious.
