APB Features Ads in Voice Chat

APB released in the US today, and it looks like Realtime Worlds is going to try to monetize the PC MMORPG in a unique way. As if there aren’t enough in-game advertisements these days, APB will feature ads played through the in-game voice chat system.

Don’t want to hear someone’s ads pumped into your fragile little ears? Better open up your wallet, then. For a fee, you can subscribe to VOIP Premium, which will disable the ads for 30, 60, or 90 days. All this is on top of all the fees that you’re paying to play the game already. Somewhere, I hear an advertising executive laughing his ass off.

You can check out the pricing structure over at Massively. There’s no word yet on just what it will cost to get those annoying ads out of your headset, but I can predict that we’ll see a surge in Ventrilo usage starting today.
