I Can’t Play Battlefield 3 on PC at Launch – Can You?

UPDATE: We have reached to EA asking for an update on these issues. We’ll let you know if we hear anything.

PC gamers hoping to fire up Battlefield 3 on launch night and click people in the face with guns until the wee hours of the morning (me!) appear to be, instead, reading forums looking for solutions to game-breaking crashing issues (not fun!), I’m sorry to say.

At least, this is my situation and judging from a bunch of threads on the official forums, I’m not alone. From what I can tell, there are two main problems happening:

  • People can’t even launch the game. Battlelog just fails to launch the single-player and/or multiplayer, for whatever reason. This is happening to me right now. I am eternally stuck trying to get online.
  • People can launch the game, but it’s crashing after a few minutes of gameplay. Which sounds like a driver issue, given that everyone on the forums has ridiculous beast PCs. I assume you guys have the minimum system requirements met pretty well.

Who knows, we could wake up tomorrow and this could be all fixed magically. It’s launch night, after all. This stuff happens.

PC gamers–how’s Battlefield 3 running for you? Any problems, or (better yet) solutions to any of these problems you’ve discovered? Let your brethren know in the comments.

In the meantime, you can watch our boy Zac play through the single-player campaign on Xbox 360 in our video walkthrough, which we started today. That’s not at all as good as dropping a plane on someone’s head, but it’s all I got right now.

The field of battle is a dangerous place — check out Game Front’s text and video walkthrough if you want to stay alive for long.

Bought the game, but I feel like a retard for purchasing it.

1. The single player is so stupid, played for one hour, adn then just had to close it
2. Multiplayer right now is a joke; more lag than ing beta, it’s sad.

I always say dont buy on release day, and I always feel like when I do…I’m an idiot

Yea Campaign was fun for me because the graphics are so good compared to 007 Goldeneye and I just am happy to see a campaign that could be real if I was on shrooms or something haha with Bose headphoens it was really sick. I can really get into a game after smoking a bowl, what can I say.

Unfortunately, I was really looking forwards to the multiplayer and I cant get into a game. At first I thought it was because I was clicking on servers that had the lock paddle lock closed but I cant get into any game, ones with 0/32 or 0/64 or games with them half f-75% full since I didnt want to join any games with only a few spots in case a bunch of people joined. SSo far no luck, and Live Chat trouble shooting I had to wait 22 minutes. the guy said .

To fix why I cant join a game.

update your computer. Check ports.

Alright, at this moment, you should uninstall the game completely, then make sure all updates are made (which it seems you have) while the game is un installed contact your Internet provider about you ports, for you computer specifically, then reinstall the game, if that doesn’t work, than contact us again and the problem will be escalated.

when I know my port Numberfrom my internet provider do I ask them to change it or something?

Jacob:
No, just write down everything they say, and if it doesn’t work then give the info you wrote down to the next agent you talk to. The case number for this conversation is 00304054

you:
and by make sure all updates are made, um what did you mean? I use a driver utility by Uniblue called Power Suite. So the question I need to ask my internet provider is? What is my port number?

Jacob:
That is exactly right. just make sure all updates to your computer are recent before installign again

you:
btw if I uninstall I dont have a hard copy since I pre ordered.. do I just open origin? This is my first downloaded game

Jacob:
as long as you still have the digital copy on you origin account then you shouldnt have any problems.

Well, I’d like to at least say I tried playing it but it stalls at 98.53% of install and just sits there so I can’t even try it out. I uninstalled origin and the game files that had loaded and re-booted. Tried it again with same results (twice). I have a brand new gamer PC with latest drivers and such and am playing several other intensive graphic games on it with no problem. Tried to just install the game NOT using Origin but seems that can’t be done near as I can see. Anyone else had these problems? Looks like a great game if I could get it to load up. I followed the instructions for JUST disc installation in the game package and that doesn’t work either.

I can’t even get the game to load battlelog tonight. I’ve restarted etc. It just gives the loading pop up screen and that’s it.

Heru

On October 25, 2011 at 10:53 pm

Outside of the Campaign missions sometimes not loading, and leaving me at a black screen, the game runs nicely for me except one thing. The ing sound spazzes like no other. Sounds fine then SCREECH and no sound, minute later POP and sound is back. Really weird. And yes i have all the newest drivers, and its not a hardware problem as no other game, video mp3 etc. has the problem, just BF3. Gameply is awesome tho :)

I’m proud to say I’m one of many that have had ZERO problems. I did the Origin digital pre-purchase and was playing the game Monday (I used the Korean proxy “hack” to trick Origin into thinking it was time to unlock the game). It took me ~5-6 hours to play through the single player campaign, again with 0 issues, but I didn’t try the multiplayer then. I signed on multiplayer yesterday with a friend of mine and we had no problems at all finding and playing games. I don’t know if it’s the power of my PC or the age of it or what, but I just built my new box a couple of weeks ago and I didn’t skimp (it runs the game on Ultra settings at ~70-80fps). I wish I had something that could help you folks having issues, but unfortunately I don’t. Good luck everyone, and I hope they fix whatever is causing the problem, it’s an awesome game.

I didn’t buy it on XBox because of the poor graphics (in comparison) and server issues that seems to be happening more and more lately (Homefront anyone?), now I’m glad I didn’t.

Anyone know how DICE or EA is going to fix this? As far as I can tell no official word has been given regarding these issues.

Waited outside Gamestop to pickup my PC copy at 12:01am, got it home and installed it, played multiplayer for about 3 hours (4am) went to bed, since then I have not been able to launch the game, I get stuck at the login screen for Battlelog.. if I put my email and password in correctly it just reloads the same screen again, if I put an incorrect password in it tells me that the password is incorrect… so they must validate and if so why will it go no further??

As for the statement on the EA website saying that they were overwhelmed by the amount of people logging on, that is plain Bullsh*t… So EA had no idea that they had over 2 million pre-order copies sold 2 weeks before go live… and 3 million by the 25th, I am sure they knew how many people/logins to expect, my guess is they want to save money so they underestimated the number of users hoping there would not be any issues… I think we should all demand some compensation as the product is not fit for purpose in its current form.. ie unplayable.

I have found an issue that stopped me from playing the PC version, I noticed that I could not get past the login page for Battlelog to play the game… Well I installed Google Chrome and made it my default browser and I have now been playing online multi-player for the last few hours with some lag… I hope this helps some of you in the same position… Dump IE9 and use Google Chome broswer it works….

Hey guys, I was using an old version of Internet Explorer. I got google chrome and made sure that my drivers were all up to date (they werent) and I could actually play. After that installed the plugin (bottom left corner of the screen). It worked for me, dont know if it will do much for you, good luck.

Hello everyone. I have not installed BF3 just yet, but i played the alpha and beta, and always had problems with launching the game from the browser. But i found out my anti virus (In this case, AVAST) was blocking battlefield. By disabling real time protection in avast i got the game up and running after all. On my laptop though, it was a browser problem. I think it was IE i was using, and then when using firefox instead it worked. Just some tips to you guys who can’t launch the game from battlelog. Good luck! :)

On October 27, 2011 at 10:05 am

Same issue here as what others describe… got it on the 25th and spent 4-5 hours fighting it but it won’t launch on my PC. Battelog screen just sits there saying “launching game” indefinitely but nothing ever launches. Campaign, Co-op, MP… makes no difference. I did all the driver updates and port opening bull but it doesnt help. What a joke of a game. At least I have two new $60 coasters for my drink when I play MW3.
Hey DICE, If I wanted to give my money to someone and get nothing for it I’d just pay more taxes you morons.

Tried working out how to launch it.. Fumble through Origin – wow it opened up a webpage? Err ok… So I launch the game via that?

Every launch option I click on I get GAME MANAGER “Initializing…” and not a whiff of the BF3 game?

I am more or less glad, that most of you have the same problem like me.
I bought the cheaper russian version and downloaded the English Language Data for it. After i downloaded and installed Bf3, i followed the instructions for the replacement of the “ty” russian language. After that i…
tried to play. Nothing happenened.
Tried to start via battlelog, nothing happened.
Tried to delete it (to download it again) nothing happenend.
Tried to repair it, nothing happenend.

DICE, seriously… BF3 is above and beyond my ass.
Raising the bar so high and failing right at the start.

At least Mw3 won’t fail like this.

Same problems here. Game installed fine, but will not launch via the manager or any other means. It is stuck saying there is an update, but when you click update it just loads the buy now page.

I was really looking forward to playing tonight, but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen anytime soon.

This origin thing is very clunky. They really should have just added it to steam. I am not sure I trust EA with a bunch of digital purchases as I could see them just closing it down one day and just saying FU to everyone who has bought games with them.

Very frustrated at the moment for such a hyped game. Love the battlefield series, but EA has a bad habit of trying to have too much DRM and control, it always causes issues with their games.

I was hoping BF3 would provide some competition for COD MW. But, like everyone else here, having purchased the game on disc, and being UNABLE to get it to actually launch (Origin is the biggest cluster f*** I have ever seen), I can safely say that Call of Duty MW3 will completely destroy BF3 and EA’s miserable game launching debacle.

What a piece of sh*t. Can’t even comment on the game, since I CAN’T PLAY IT.

EPIC FAIL doesn’t do this justice. This begs for a new term, something far, far, far more pathetic than “epic fail”…

Carl

On October 30, 2011 at 6:16 pm

Never been so disappointed in a game, it doesn’t even function. Every time I try to connect to a server it says “Connecting…” for ever. I spoke with Akmed, Vijay and Heather on the chat after waiting 20 minutes for each, and they just told me a bunch of bull like port opening, re-installing. I did all these things and I still can’t play it. you EA, I hope you die of a painful death.

Jusedawg

On October 30, 2011 at 8:07 pm

This is exactly why I usually don’t buy games when they first come out. I would have rather they waited an extra month or two until all the bugs were worked out instead of being really frustrated with just having paid $60 for something I can’t play.

FYI – In just figured out how to correct my issue at least. In Origin, right-click the BF3 game icon and select repair install. This should check-sum all your files and mine downloaded a 472 MB update that repaired the problem. So the DVD version must have some major bug that got updated wit it as the digital download version was already up to date and work from the start.

Either way, the origin thing is very very clunky and I am really disliking the web browser to start games. I hope it does exit out back to the browser every time I switch servers.

Well I downloaded BF3 from the CD, got the origin and what not. Then when I pushed launch game it just said not responding; so I uninstalled the game from Origins, put in CD1, and installed the game again. Now, when I go onto my battlelog or whatever, it says there is an update, but on my Origins, it says it is up to date and good to go. Wtfbbq should I do now? Lol.

EA’s failed me once again and i bet they don’t care either. So far i’ve tried a lot of things but it’s useless. It just keep launching endlessly on multiplayer and just pops away at co-op and campaign. I got into a co-op game once in a sudden way(don’t know how) but are they gonna fix that? I’m almost done with this company , they just had to ruin the Westwood C&C series for instance.

BF3′s beta was superb even me having played it on console.

So i can’t come to understand why they had to put so much extra junk in front of us when most of us don’t really give a about how well thier friends rank among themselves. All we wanted was to play the damn game.

Because of battlelog, I, like many others here, can’t even start the single player from the browser or from origin after going offline.

i have tried to reintall the game and tried to launch it from google chrom, firefox, and ,as painful as it was, internet explorer (bleh).

still no luck. and to top it all off the live chat representatives only serve to regurgitate useless information.

i know some people here have got it to work on google chrome but i just can’t.

Puchased the game on 28th of October , we have 12th today and i have not yet managed to play for the same same same problem… Initializing forever.I tried everything – updated drivers, netframework 4,browsers,ports,antivirus,firewall,motherboard,bios,files,reinstalling,admin rights, trademark changes, regedit and 1000 other things but i still fail to launch the game even when i am offline or whatever . I am pretty sure that i will never puchase a game from EA again for that . Last but not leist, i do not think that they will patch something for that simply cause they do not care . Good luck everyone ,i uninstall and throw the game to the garbage while trying to forget my 40 euros that i spent for that .Cheers .

EA burn my fingers once and will never again… I bought game, game did not work properly and ever since that I download illegal copy try it and see if it`s good, than I pay for it… I have game clubs where I run all but EA games, EA is complicating so much that regular fun becomes frustration… I on you EA, you`d give your ass to get some dollars and you gave nothing in return… I`m willing to pay as much as I have to, to get fine program and kill a few hours with my team. I hate my self for wasting 3 hours to try this you made, shame on you… sell damn title to other studio who is able to make good game and take %, it is fer for us players that you disappoint with every new title you make… what the are you waiting.. maybe cloud gaming so you can take money and living gamers no other alternative… I on you dumb idiots you will fail before network infrastructure is mature for that…

This happened to me too. I updated my driver on the website it told me too and downloaded direct x 10 and 10.1 when the 10 didn’t work. Still doesn’t work. This was my sister’s Christmas gift to me and she is pissed off at me for not playing it. She doesn’t understand the things that you have to have to fun games.

So pissed off with this game!!! Two of my mates have it on PC’s which have the same specs or below compared to my PC and they have no problems at all playing online, they even played off my internet connection which just makes it that much worse…..I have tried all the lil fixes recommended on the net but still nothing………. Can anyone tell me what to do ??? I am just getting: Loading Level…… All day long.
Got a discount on EA games after talking to the EA Chat for help..is this a indication that the game won’t ever work and that I need to go buy another one?

i was having the same problem with it not loading in to the game. but im pritty sure i found the problem. for me i just need to update my graphics card and it works fine. so im sure that everyone else is having the same problem. its just that ur graphics card is out dated. so just find out what card u got, go online and find the latest up date for it and it will work. it took me 5 ing days to figure that out. i thought i was going to have to get a refund (witch i didnt want to do). so up date ur ! lol this game is the best cod up its !

I got origin and installed it then it comes up with, “We’re Sorry, an error has occurred. There is a Problem with you game’s setup. Please re-install your game.”

So I reinstall it 3 times and it still says this. What do i do?

the worst part is maybe that when I played Alpha it worked so good almost no bugs just a bit of lag but that was maybe beacause my internet connection… then the beta came and it was full of bugs and lag if i tried to use iron sight it looked behind me or wasn’t there at all… then the real game was released and now I can open origin and battlelog but not the game I hoped they would have solved this problem by now but it isn’t congrtulations EA you’ve created the best game ever and no one can open it good work…

I got the “Connecting Forever” problem. It’s stuck on connecting and I can’t play multiplayer. I’m sure its not a port problem.Never had this kind of problem before a couple weeks ago.
I’m going to try and repair the game. And reinstall it if it comes to that. Unfortunately I don’t have the game installer so I have to DL it again.
/sigh

Exact same thing, It also gives diffrent “Excuses” for why it’s not working, like: 1. Couldn’t connect with EA, try again later. 2. Something went wrong, try again. 3. Connection problems, please try again. 4. Couldn’t connect to server, try again later. I can’t stand it, just got the game a couple days ago and never played multiplayer once!

Heya mate, as I was reading your comments I agreed with all of it, this has got me to the point were I am red to the face with anger because EA; one, screwed things up by relying on origin, 2, not even bothering to sort anything as I see your commenting about this issue on the launch night, well I am now getting this problem as of today (29 April 2012) Seems they have not really given any form of a f***.

Did you resolve your problem and if so please please please x1,000,000 let me know how.
