Arma 3 Campaign Begins on Halloween
We did our best to start reviewing Arma 3 last month, but it’s impossible to pin a score on the military sim because it’s simply not done yet. Bohemia Interactive will take a big step toward making it a complete game on October 31, with the launch of the first campaign episode.
In a post on the official Arma 3 site, Bohemia announced players will become a soldier stationed in the Republic of Altis & Stratis when the free DLC arrives in three weeks.
“Our first campaign episode, ‘Survive’, introduces players to Ben Kerry, a regular soldier who’s part of a NATO peacekeeping mission in the Mediterranean,” Creative Director Jay Crowe stated. “Following a couple of years of uneasy cease-fire, this US-led deployment is now in the process of a staged drawdown. The vacuum left by withdrawing forces is being rapidly filled by the opposing CSAT faction, creating the conditions for, one might say, a flashpoint.”
“Of course, it’s not just about our own story, but another opportunity to provide yet more building blocks for the platform – new weapons, animations, 3D objects, scripted modules – each designed to enable grant creators even greater freedom to create and share their own content. Looking forward to the forthcoming episodes, we’ll continue to expand Arma 3’s sandbox with additions such as new vehicles.”
Survive is the first of three episodes Bohemia has planned for the Arma 3 campaign. No word yet on when the second and third will launch.
While we’ve been impressed by what we’ve seen thus far of Arma 3, it’s tough to recommend picking it up just yet in its incomplete state and with its full retail price.
