Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel Announced

As if the prospect Dead Space 3′s dudebro co-op action wasn’t enough to get you excited, EA has announced today Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, a third entry in the Army of Two series.

The Devil’s Cartel will continue the trend of co-operative third-person shooters featuring giant men in armor. The bright side, however, is that according to EA, this entry will have a “more intense, mature, and grittier tone.” When plugged into Google translator (EA to English), you get: “we know the last two games were sort of goofy and dumb, but we’re going to try a lot harder this time at not being so goofy and dumb.” The game will run on Battlefield 3′s Frostbite 2 engine, so at least we know it will be pretty.

It should be noted that although the game is in development by Visceral Montreal, this is not the same developer working on Dead Space 3. It is simply EA Montreal (the dev responsible for the previous Army of Two games) renamed.

Given that EA has elected to remain relatively classy and refrain from calling this game Army of Two 3, I predict – based on the law of sequels – that sales will be terrible. Well, even more terrible. Devil’s Cartel will release in March 2013.
