How to Level-Up Artisans

More updates incoming as we play through Assassin’s Creed 3.

  • To level up artisans, you must complete their respective side-quests and events, which pop-up during each Sequence, starting with Sequence 05.
  • Below, we’ll list in what order you’ll need to visit and complete each side-quest to gain artisan levels.
  • Don’t forget, you’ll need to recruit every worker and artisan before they can begin gaining levels.
  • Side-quest Order

Note: While not all side-quests and events have prerequisites, many do. Follow this order to gain every level, but you’ll need to find every event. If any levels are missed, you risk being unable to continue with one or more workers and artisans.

    4. Lumberers (Lvl.2)

    3. Huntress (Lvl.1)
    4. Miner (Lvl.1) [Boston]

    2. Miner (Lvl.2) [After Achilles' Side-Quest]
    3. Lumberers (Lvl.4)

Are we sure this system isnt bugged in game? I have played close attention to my sequence missions and double checked to make sure ive completed all homestead missions once they appear. The artisans i have so far have yet to level at all despite having completed multiple missions for each. Currenty im on the first mission of sequence eight. All i get when competing a homestead mission is more crafting items from that artisan…..no level increase.

The odd thing is I only have seen a 2 or 3 homestead missions and I walk in several times a sequence in every map.

@Z.205 Same with me! Done all Homestead Missions so far (beginning of Chapter 8), once completed there´s “xy now available ” and “upgrade available”, but every artisan is still Level 1… Bug? Patch? Wanna have inventions, new weapons and the whole trading experience dammit

    @Connor,

Really weird! I’ve heard plenty of reports from players across the internet saying the exact same thing. At first I thought it was just the weird intricacies of the system, but it might be a bug plaguing some players.

So wait, if you don’t get the artisans during the correct sequence, you can’t get them at all, or can you go back once you have beaten the game to get them cause I think I have only two.

I’m in sequence 5, did lumberers event, talked to Achilles, sent convoy, made barrel, no artisan quest popped up for woodworkers, checked frontier, no farmer quest either.
Do I need to do the next main event (1st naval mission) to trigger them or did I get bitten by the “bug”?
    Thanks,

Apparently only certain missions are available at certain times in the storyline, that would have been good to know before I played it for 10hrs. This game has the worst mission system I have ever seen. Everything else is awesome, but not being able to play certain side missions because you played the next story mission is weak-sauce. Seems to me like a dog-and-pony show.

Umm… I miss some of the missions as mentioned at the top, but do you think Ubisoft will fix this part? Another funny thing, i finished the game ( Achiles dead at this time ) but he return in the missions xD

    On November 4, 2012 at 12:34 pm

So if i got achilles side mission for the painting, does that mean i have done all available homestead missions to that point? Not sure if i missed one and have no clue how to check that. But im on sequence 9 and ive done that achilles mission. Thanks guys

I don’t think it’s a bug. For them to level up you have to see them working in Conner’s homestead with Eagle Eye. They randomly come out of their homes and start working. For them to level up, you have to catch them doing different tasks around the homestead. When you go into eagle vision, if they are doing one of the 3 tasks, they will be highlighted with an orange aura. You lock onto them using L trigger/ L2. If they are doing a task you haven’t scanned yet, they will level up. if they are doing a task you have scanned already, then a popup will show up saying that said task is already recorded. if you have already beaten the game and are looking for a “guide” to find out the timing of the task then you’re basically out of luck. You have to follow them around, or go out and in of the map until they are doing something different.

This is glitched, i beat the game and i did all the homestead missions in every sequence but some, just do not show up. I have tried every possible way to make these other homestead missions try to appear, with no success. The game is just badly glitched, and needs a lot of patches. Its a great game but my god, lvling these artisans is just horrid.

Ah what a load of bull …I’ve gone through the trouble of getting every last freaking thing in this game and I just realized I’m having the same problem. None of my artisans will level up, all I get is some new buying options for my stockpile. I haven’t been able to craft a single thing besides some tea and ship sails. I’m gonna be done with the game before I can even craft anything.

    Hey guys,

My craftsmen are leveling. 3 of thm leveled up. You don’t have to do them in that sequence or order. I just played the missions whenever I fely like it. in sequence 10 I got the last one of my set. Then I got a few new missions, like getting the silk for that one woman. Or the doctor, who delivered the baby….such things. Just wait and do all the missions, you’ll get there eventually.

samething here.. i have collected ALL the feathers, chest, almanacs, and trinkets.. i have liberated every fort and every district in both cities.. i have done all of the brawlers challenges and almost completed the frontiersmen and hunting society challenges.. i am NOT starting over.. i like the Homestead aspect of the game but it is just to bugged out for me to mess with.. i personally think they should have waited on the release because there are a lot of problems with the game… i have really enjoyed it but i can wait..

Very disappointed in all of this. This game seems rushed with many glitches. Double assassination was a god damn mystery for a while (I have Xbox). Homestead is a ing disaster and nothing is explained properly at all. I’m on seq 8 and I still don’t have a miner nor have I even seen one. I take out a lot of the side missions before I do the main ones so how did I miss it. I’ve played every AC game through with almost all 100sync. I’m not starting this over but after reading up on this I am now overly frustrated. Ps is anyone else seeing red dots on there radar but no one is there. Been happening a lot lately. I don’t kno how this game won so many awards with this mess.

The game is bugged just like every other game that you get the first month it comes out…I swear im done with midnite releases. Im not getting games until they have been out for at least a month already… the video game industry is getting sloppy because they feel like they can release patches after the games out to fix things… but if you got the game when it first came out you may be done with it before the patches come out. Seriously get it together.

In sequence 10, lvl 3 upgrade woodworker, it’s actually in New York. Otherwise, great help :)

    On November 11, 2012 at 8:22 am

Everyone needs to email Ubisoft about this because it is a serious flaw. I emailed them a few days ago and still no response.

I am at Sequence 10 now. I complete every side quest and obtain every collectible as soon as it appears and don’t bother with the main mission until everything else is done. I have got all the artisans and the apparently can craft all the higher items (it says so in top right after completing a homestead mission) but i only have 2 artisans at level 2.

I swear I’ve done all the homestead missions but they just won’t level. In the meantime I am going to stay on sequence 10 and do everything else whilst i wait for the email off Ubisoft…..

    On November 11, 2012 at 2:11 pm

Just to clarify, they are leveling up. You can only see the current level of the Woodworker, Blacksmith, and Tailor. Until Sequence 9 the only thing you get from leveling up is more crafting materials because only the people that produce the materials have leveled up so far. The actual people that craft things (Woodworker, Blacksmith, and Tailor) only start leveling up in Sequence 9. The Innkeepers also craft things, but they never need to level up.

    On November 11, 2012 at 5:50 pm

Guys, not all the homesteaders are Artisans. Artisans are the ones needed to make things with the Recipes. The other ones gather raw materials. So all of you who say you’re glitched, probably haven’t gotten all the homesteaders yet. You get the woodworker early on, but can’t level him up until sequence 9. And you don’t get the Blacksmith until the tail end of sequence 8, or the Tailor till sequence 9. So you’re probably doing missions for the other homesteaders. Just keep following this guide, and eventually you’ll get there. It just takes a lot of running around. If you can’t find a homesteader mission, check both cities and the frontier, and make sure you don’t already have a mission open. Also the guide isn’t entirely correct, certain missions took me to different places, or ones that weren’t marked with a city had me go to a city (e.g. Woodworker lvl.3 from Sequence 10 had me go to New York, as did Doctor lvl.2)

    On November 12, 2012 at 6:26 pm

I beat the game and did the side quest for the hunting girl and the wood working guy and since I beat the game does that mean my artisans are stuck at level 1 from now on because I beat all sequences?

    War Assassin

    On November 13, 2012 at 6:52 pm

that’s not true austin, i thought the same thing where i thought all my artisans would stay at level 1 because i had to do the missions at the time of the correct sequence. THIS IS NOT TRUE. ok this goes for everyone

The artisans will level up. all my artisans leveled up after completing the homestead missions (i dont remember exactly how but i have a hunch). You must complete and make sure you have completed ALL HOMESTEAD MISSIONS. If you are not sure you completed all of them, check by doing the following:

    1. press START and go to DNA TRACKER. Here you will find all missions that have been completed and synchronized
    2. Go to the right and check those missions colored in RED (the red bars on the right).
    3. check the ones that say homestead on them and see if all the red bars (aka homestead missions) are filled in. if those red bars aren’t completely filled in, then you have not completed all of them or have not found them.

NOTE: Some of you say you completed them, others say there’s a bug where you cant see the missions on the map (make sure you synchronize all viewpoints to reveal everything on your map). This might be the problem for some of you guys and i have your solution. You may be stuck at a certain homestead mission where you have to get certain things for some. This is the homestead mission “The Proper Tools” regarding Big Dave and the hammer parts he needs to make his hammer so that he can make the knife for Norris to give to Myriam. The thing is, after you talk to Dave, he tells you to go to New York and get his hammer parts. So when i went to new york, my dumb confused self was looking for the homestead mission icon and i was frustrated. I then realized you had to BUY THE PARTS at any GENERAL STORE in new york (if you dont see a general store, explore the city and find one or synchronize viewpoints to identify em.) The Hammer parts can be bought and are found under “civilian mission items” in the general store. Once you buy the two parts, you may return to Dave and complete the mission, thus revealing all the other remaining homestead missions for you to complete.

AGAIN, you do not need to do these missions at their corresponding sequence, that explanation at the top just shows when the missions will be available to you. So if you decided to beat the game’s main missions first (like me :p) then you have no worries. Just find and complete all homestead missions til the very end (you’ll know you finished every one of them when you hang up the missing painting that’s supposed to go in the dining room which is the last homestead mission). At this point, all your artisans should be their maxed levels.

PS: the solution is either the big ol’ mess i just said up there^^^ OR, i’ve been hearing rumors that you can use eagle vision to target and look at the people at the homestead doing activities and completing the ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE COMMON MAN. but i doubt that’s the case for i have not finished it.

I hope this guide will help and use it to help your friends and others with this situation. Good luck.

Nothing is True. Everything is Permitted.

By the way, now that my artisans are leveled up, they are useful :D you can create more wagons so that you can send even more convoys to trade your stuff or even build a SHIP to send trades overseas! Also, make upgrades for connor such as pouches to carry more bullets, ropedarts, and arrows. Even make WEAPONS such as knives, pistols, axes swords (i could go on but you get the picture :P ). Again, read my explanation above and you get to experience these great stuff! Even after beating the game, i like doing these things. It’s like a killing version of farmville or something idk lol

If your other missions are not popping up then go back and check boston. The main story doesn’t go back to Boston until the end and I had a million missions there that I had either skipped or hadn’t seen.

Well I seem to be having the lvling issue as well even though I’ve been able to get all the artisans up to where im at in the game. One major bug I’ve had with my game not sure about anyone else is my syncronization points dissapeared early in the game I got a few in Boston but when I got on again they weren’t there I went to every place I knew for sure was a sync point to reveal more of the map but nothing I get to the top and doesn’t do a damn thing hope no else had this problem its rediculous

to get all of the artisans to level up, you first have to get all of them, including the PRIEST that can only be found on SEQUENCE 9, so if you are trying to level them up before that, it will not work. every homestead mission after you get the priest will level up the artisans on your homestead.

    On January 29, 2013 at 11:19 pm

I think what everybody misinterprets in all these questions is the difference between suppliers and artisans. Lumberer, Miner, Huntress, Farmer are all suppliers and those are the Homestead missions you do from sequence 5 to 9. As long as you see additional wood, skins, ores, veggies, etc. (stockpiling) after you do the missions, your suppliers are leveling. Now… the artisans which are the Woodworker, Innkeepers, Blacksmith. Doctor. etc dont really get their missions until you hit sequence 9. Thats when you see their levels rise after the mission. Suppliers fill up items in stockpiling. Artisans create recipes in crafting from items bought and stockpiled. Its pretty simple, the designers wanted to make sure the items were available for the artisans BEFORE the artisans could actually level up. So it is important to do the “supplier” missions before your artisans can level or have their missions available.

To all who have a problem with artisans missing or not leveling. Make sure you do ALL homestead quests availlable(preferably according to this guide). Only artisans that can craft items will appear in the accounting menu and only after sequence 8 will they start leveling up by doing homestead missions. I hope many of you will be helped by this comment.

Interesting i’m trying to get the resources and then lvl up my artisians but the play back memory is not at all great it only lets you play that memory’s main mission not to journey around in that repeated sequence. but all that pick pocketing and having the soldiers kill the civilians with their poor accuracy i haven’t found any metal ores at all
