Assassin’s Creed 3: Special Item Crafting Guide

Special Item Crafting Guide

Most recipes are rewarded to you in Treasure Chests found in outdoor areas, but all recipes can be crafted without a recipe. You can attempt to craft simply by selecting ingredients and putting them together.

If you combine items that are not part of a set recipe, you’ll lose those items.

While most crafted items won’t be of much use to the player, only good for selling, some specialty items can be crafted that will provide all sorts of unique upgrades.

These specialty items can be crafted at any time with the appropriate ingredients and artisan levels. Some artisans will only gain levels at certain sequences, so you may have to wait until later in the game before certain specialty items can be crafted.

Specialty items sometimes require special materials and ingredients to construct, as well. Below, we’ll list every special recipe, and follow up with extra material recipes if they’re required.

Special Iron Ingots: Acquired by completing a special mission for the Miners in your Homestead. Can also be found by unlocking a chest located behind your manor house.
Purchased / Discovered Materials: Other materials can be found by hunting and skinning animals, or are available from the different helpers and artisans around the Homestead.

How do artisans level up? All of mine have level 1 pretty late in the game (seq. 9).

Artisans are leveled up by completing their events or quests. Basically, you’ll need to check back each Sequence with your artisans around the Homestead or elsewhere until you stumble into their special event or quest. It’s a tricky system, so we’re working on a guide to help.

I’ve been doing homestead missions but have yet to lvl any artisans and I’m on sequence 6 almost 7. Do I have to start over?

I’ve been getting reports that, for whatever reason, Homestead missions aren’t working for some players. It might be a bug in the game, or something else. We’ll keep looking online to see if there’s any sort of solution.

Special Iron Ingots are available from a Miner side-quest, and you can find more in a treasure chest behind the manor.

If you haven’t level your artisans and you are past the point where you can do anything to improve them, you pretty much just have to finish the game as far as I could tell. I wasn’t aware of the complexities of leveling the artisans, but I got through the story without them essentially and now I’m going back and getting the homestead missions totally finished.

*minor spoiler* Thishis game was so hyped up and they just tried to add so much that they really messed up what should have been epic but i mean scenes like the tea party were so anti climatic it was dissappointing

I have the same problem Matt has. I know i have the special iron ingot but when i go to craft its nowhere to be found and yes im looking through connors materials. Upsetting! And i might have just sold it. Ultimate sadface.
