Assassin’s Creed IV Trailer Leaked

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is a game currently in development at Ubisoft, and its existence was leaked ahead of the company’s own schedule when individuals privy to the information broke the embargo a few weeks ago.

Ubisoft announced late last week that it would reveal the game in full on Monday, but once again, the game has become ‘victim’ (much to the joy of fans, I’m sure) of yet another embargo-break, this time revealing what Ubisoft had planned to release all along—the debut trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV.

The trailer begins with a pirate—presumably Blackbeard—sharing his ‘honest opinion’ of what he thinks about a gentleman of fortune who sails the West Indies. In doing so, Blackbeard introduces the game’s protagonist—Captain Edward Kenway. He’s described as a fearsome dog who’s capable of clearing the deck of a Spanish galleon all by himself, with prowess in combat that Blackbeard himself has never before seen.

As he’s described by the narrator, the trailer shows off the protagonist as he does battle aboard ships, cutting men down in his wake.

The trailer ends with Kenway’s assassination of another man, and reveals the game’s release date as October 29, 2013 for the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U.

More information about the game is expected to be released on March 4 when Ubisoft makes a formal announcement.

UBISOFT have announced that they will constantly insist the PC version will ship same day as the console versions and then approx 1 month prior to launch quietly delay the PC version without explanation.

When asked to comment further on this an Ubisoft representative said, “We have to hold true to our traditions and long standing operating practices and delaying the PC version of our games at the last minute is vital to us. Half our board members get off by doing it. I pity the janitors who have to clean the board room after they make the announcement.”

The Ubisoft representative went on to say the recent announcement that Ubisoft wants to better it’s relationship with PC games was actually a joke mentioned at the recent meeting with Sony where the deal with give PS3 users 1 hour of exclusive content was made. The media took Ubisoft at their word and no one at Ubisoft has stopped snickering long enough to issue a clarification statement.

More on this story as it develops.

I’m curious to see how closely related this plot will be to the last game. If that is Blackbeard, then the game would take place before AC3, and even if it’s not Blackbeard, the setting clearly can’t be too far removed from AC3, especially since the new character’s last name is Kenway, just like in AC3.

@ R.J.

The game takes place in 1715 (well, that’s the date on the map) and Edward Kenway is the father of Haythem Kenway. That makes him Conner’s Grandfather.

But Desmond is dead, and he doesn’t have any siblings that we know about, and if he does why is he so bloody important? Abstergo go capture his teenage brother or sister that hasn’t been animus trained to a killing machine…

@ Menthro

Thanks for that spoiler BTW, nice to know a major plot point of AC3 since I haven’t finished it yet.
