Atari Kicks Off Star Trek Online Anniversary Sale

Atari and Cryptic are celebrating Star Trek Online’s first year running and the kick off of Champions Online: Free For All with a special anniversary deal. Starting January 25th, lifetime subscriptions for both games are 20%. You can grab a Champions or STO lifetime subscription for $239.99 until February 4th.

While Champions Online is going free-to-play with microtransactions tomorrow (January 25, 2011) , Star Trek Online is currently a monthly subscription service. With the success of other MMOs making the switch to free-to-play, you’ve got to wonder how long it will be until Atari takes STO down that path.

Concerning the STO subscription fee, didn’t Atari have to pay Paramount or whatever entity who owns Star Trek a huge license fee?
