Backwards Compatibility Site for PS3 Now Online

nyko_adapter.jpgFinally, the long-promised backwards compatibility website documenting all of the known issues with PSone and PS2 games has been launched. The handy search engine allows for you to search for games to see any potential issues you’ll have when playing on the 60GB or 80GB PlayStation 3 (there’s an option to select which you’ll be playing on).

As 1UP points out, there is a notice at the bottom of the website that states the following: “We are working with game publishers and peripheral manufacturers to develop the appropriate hardware to play peripheral-dedicated PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3. Ultimately, however, it will be up to those companies to decide if they want to produce these peripherals to support this gameplay option.”

In other words, they’re trying to make it so you can play Guitar Hero 1 and 2 on your PS3, but the developers will need to release some sort of peripheral so that you can do that. But why would they do that? They want your money all over again, and with Guitar Hero III right around the corner, it seems unlikely that they’ll release any such peripheral this year.

But it’s not like all PS2s have now self destructed with the release of the PS3. I doubt they will release a peripheral but people who have the game don’t need it keep playing anyway so it’s not down to them wanting ‘your money all over again’, it’s down to there being little or no market for it.

You do realize you could have got 3 PS2′s for the price of a PS3, and unlike the PS3, 75% of the games on PS2 don’t suck, as compared to the PS3 where the percentage is reversed.

Its amazing and hugely impressive that you have played all of the 8,000 + games on the PS2. Well done.
