Bastion Tops 500,000 Sales and Wins 70+ Awards

The last week of 2011 saw indie game Bastion hit a milestone: 500,000 copies sold, attributable to recent holiday sales on Steam and Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Designer Greg Kasavin had this to say about Bastion’s unprecedented success:

When we set out to make Bastion, a sales number like that seemed astronomical to us, so it feels great to have hit that mark. It goes to show that a lot of folks out there like what we’re doing and want us to keep going, which is great, because we intend to stick together as a team and do just that.

Bastion was met with critical acclaim from many publications and websites, receiving over 70 awards in the process. GameFront writer Phil Hornshaw gave Bastion a 7/10, a humbler review score than most, applauding its art style and narration, but taking points off for repetitive gameplay and shallow combat.

Nonetheless, congrats to Bastion. It’s difficult not to cheer for an underdog indie developer in a AAA dev market.
