Batten Down The Hatches Sony! Hack Attack #3 Planned For This Weekend!
Just when you think things are going to get better… no, scratch that, no one has been willing to go on record predicting things are going to get better. Let me rephrase: Just when you think the unfolding Sony network hack drama would get boring, it gets unboring instead! As Sony continues to botch the aftermath of the hack of the PlayStation network, CNET is reporting that a third major attack against Sony is planned for this weekend:
An observer of the Internet Relay Chat channel used by the hackers told CNET today that a third major attack is planned this weekend against Sony’s Web site. The people involved plan to publicize all or some of the information they are able to copy from Sony’s servers, which could include customer names, credit card numbers, and addresses, according to the source. The hackers claim they currently have access to some of Sony’s servers.
I don’t buy it. Sony would have to have a functioning online presence for the hack to be successful. OHSNAP! But seriously, before freaking out about this too much, I’d caution our readers to remember that no company could be so rotten at the top, so run by fools that in the wake of the theft of millions of members’ personal data they wouldn’t have since locked customer billing information down like Folsom prison. Right? I mean, if this hack were to succeed, and even more customer financial information were to be accessed, it would have to be proof that the people running Sony are terrible at their jobs and should be fired immediately.
But, on the off chance that this unlikely attack could possibly succeed, we at least know it’s going to happen sometime between, well, now, and Sunday night. And since we know for a fact no true geek would miss Game of Thrones, we’re guessing it goes down before 5 PM, EDT.
