Battlefield 3 Pre-Order Bonuses Stir Up a Boycott

Over the weekend, EA announced the “Physical Warfare Pack” for Battlefield 3. It’s a collection of pre-order bonuses for folks who reserve the game at GAME and Gamestation in the UK. Included in the pack are three exclusive items (Type 88 LMG, SKS Flash Suppressor and DAO-12 Flechette Ammo) and one early access item (DAO-12 Shotgun).

The folks over at Reddit are up in arms about this offering, and to show their displeasure, they’re organizing a BF3 boycott. They’ve posted contact info for a large number of EA execs, as well as phone numbers for EA corporate.

A similar boycott took place back in 2008 was launched by SarcasticGamer and resulted in EA rescinding their plans.

We’ll have to wait and see how it shakes out this time, but as of right now, I’m not all that worried. Battlefield 2, Bad Company and Bad Company 2 each had a large number of weapons, and none of them had a marked effect on how you scored. It’s more a matter of the perception of an imbalance than one that actually exists. As soon as we hear how EA feels about this, we’ll let you know.

They announced this forever ago. I’ll buy DLC if it gets offered via Steam, otherwise play like everyone else. Saying you’re going to boycott Battlefield 3 is like saying you’ll never buy intel/nvidia again.. good luck!

The funny thing about the flash suppressor is that if it actually works as a flash suppressor should, it’s kinda worthless.

A flash suppressor doesn’t hide the flash from the enemy. That’s basically impossible. What it does it reduces the chance that the shooter will br blinded by his own muzzle flash.
