Battlefield 3 PS3 Missing Promised BF1943, Will Get Early DLC Instead

A few months back, Sony announced that the PlayStation 3 version of Battlefield 3 would ship with a nice little bonus tucked inside: a free copy of Battlefield 1943. With the game hitting stores last night, PS3 owners were surprised to find that this little bonus was missing. Obviously, this raised a few questions among gamers, most of them along the lines of “Where’s my Battlefield 1943?”

On the official Battlefield Twitter, there’s a response that’s likely going to draw some ire.

In lieu of 1943 being available on disk for PS3 customers, EA has made all BF3 expansions available early to PS3 customers.

So instead of the free game you were promised, EA’s going to give you the ability to spend money before other gamers are allowed to spend money. Don’t you feel special now?

Battlefield 1943 has been the source of a lot of disappointment in its time. First it was canceled for PC and now this. I’m not sure how well this will go over with PS3 owners, but I’m sure they’ll let us know what they think of it.

I cancelled my PS3 Battlfield3 not because BF1943 alone but because it also failed in a few other categories: no bots, lackluster SP, buggy, and visuals unimpressive not when compared to PC because that’s not a fair comparison but even when compared to other AAA console titles like Rage, Resistance3, Killzone3, Uncharted3, Crysis2.

Battlefield 3 is a good reason to upgrade my PC but that’s just one game so far where I’ve seen a strong compelling reason. Just one title does not justify spending $600 in PC upgrades.
