Battlefield 3 Requires a Monster PC for Ultra Graphics (UPDATED)

When we saw the system requirements for Battlefield 3, we briefly entertained thoughts of being able to run the game on Ultra graphics settings. Today, those hopes have been dashed.

In response Twitter message that, “Recommended is usually medium,” a fan asked DICE community manager Daniel Matros was asked if one GTX 580 would be sufficient to run BF3 on Ultra settings, or if two would be needed. Matros replied in another Tweet that two would be required.

So there you have it. If you’re interested in maxing out Battlefield 3′s graphics, CJ’s Monster PC build should get the job done. Personally, I plan to scrape together $1000, and grab a couple of these.

UPDATE: According to Johan Andersson, a Rendering Architect at DICE, Recommended hardware will let you run the game on High settings. (see here).

Really? I was able to play the Alpha on high (ultra was disabled) without any issues on my i5 240GTX at work with decent FPS.

My rig at home didn’t have any issues running on high keeping a consistent 40+ fps

Holy crap! $500 each for a video card! And you need 2 to play it ultra? Come on seriously guys? $1000 just for the video cards. You’re looking at close to $2000 for the whole system.

I’m assuming all of you are like me-work and pay bills and have some disposable income. We don’t have endless amount of money. $2000 can get you a lot of nice toys.

Battlefield 3 looked pretty good on PS3 and on medium PC settings. Do you really need to spend that much money/life energy/resource just to play at ultra settings so the dust falls realistically?

Just stop and think what you can get for $2000 guys.

First of all, yes. You do need to play it on max settings. They didn’t put them there for you to not use them.

Secondly, you won’t cum as hard while playing it on lower settings.

What most of us will probably have to do is crank down the resolution a bit in order to get everything else going. I managed to pull it off on Metro 2033 at 1600×900, so maybe it’ll work here too.

That may be the case, but still the maxed resolution will look the best. Aceept nothing less!
