Battlefield: Hardline Gameplay Trailer Leaks

Right on the heels of the leak of the next Battlefield game yesterday, a trailer showing off gameplay has leaked as well.

After EA confirmed that Battlefield: Hardline was real, we all expected that we’d have to wait until E3 to see what the game really looked like – or at least we though we would. This morning, a gameplay trailer also leaked, showing off the game using what appears to be a codename: “Omaha.”

The trailer confirms multiple gameplay modes for the cops and robbers shooter, including a heist mode, and a full singleplayer campaign. However, the game doesn’t appear to be on Frostbite 3, at least to my eyes. Could that mean that it’s targeting a cross-gen release, perhaps later this year? That’s my speculation for now.

That said, I’m a little confused by the usage of the Battlefield name for a game that is related to the series in only the most ephemeral way. It reeks of a cash-in on the popularity of the series, and for a team like Visceral, I’d prefer to see EA launch a brand new IP instead of cashing in on an old one.

We’ll have more on Hardline from E3 in a couple of weeks.
