Become PSOne Snake in Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

Before we get to find out what manner of phantom pains Solid Snake is suffering in the next Metal Gear Solid, we’ll hit Ground Zeroes. As Konami revealed today, the sold-separately prologue will include a nice throwback twist, allowing players to become the low polygon count vintage Snake we know and love from the 1998 PSOne Metal Gear.

Allow me to clarify: MGS 5: Ground Zeroes will be available on current and next gen consoles sometime in the spring of 2014. The PlayStation versions, both for PS3 and PS4, will include the exclusive ‘MGS1 Deja-Vu’ mission. That’s where Snake will have a flashback to his first appearance on Sony’s console and actually transform into the low poly count version. See the above trailer for the rather fantastic results.

Konami also announced that MGS 5: Ground Zeroes will be available in boxed form and as a digital download for $30.

But wait, there’s more! Konami is also sharing 12 minutes of Ground Zeroes gameplay footage it showed off at TGS 2013. Take a gander:
