Bethesda Confirms Wolfenstein: The New Order for Next-Gen Systems

The news shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to anyone, but Wolfenstein: The New Order has been officially slated for release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Bethesda confirmed today.

Developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda, Wolfenstein is powered by the id Tech 5 engine and is slated for release in the fourth quarter of 2013 for both current-gen platforms in addition to the two aforementioned next-gen platforms.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a reboot of the series that first ignited the first-person shooter genre. The year is 1960, and the Nazis have won the war. Players take on the role of protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz as he launches an impossible offensive against the Third Reich, who have since conquered the world.

In addition to the announcement, Bethesda has released over a half-dozen new screenshots for the game, showcasing how it looks on next-gen systems. Click on the images for the full-sized versions.
