Bethesda: Doom 4 Postponement is “Complete Bollocks”

Could RAGE’s turbulent launch affect id’s next game? for a little bit this morning, it seemed it might.

Earlier today, Kotaku reported that a source claiming to be close to id Software had told them that Bethesda had, “made the decision to “indefinitely postpone” development of Doom 4.” The source claimed this was due to the problematic launch of RAGE, id’s most recent release.

In an unusual move, Bethesda has not only commented on these rumors, it has squashed them flat. Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda Softworks, took to Twitter to refute the claims, saying,

Re: DOOM 4 rumor, games are done when they are done and no title under development at id has been postponed – indefinitely or otherwise.

He followed up with a second tweet (in response to a question from a journalist) that simply read, “Complete bollocks.”

It’s nice to see Bethesda promptly responding to these rumors and laying them low, rather than letting them fester and gain any traction. I’ve gotten so used to hearing “We don’t comment on rumors and speculation,” that the directness and immediacy of this response was welcome indeed. Doom fans, don’t worry. You will get your next game. No word on when that might happen, of course. I wouldn’t expect it anytime soon, as RAGE has been tying up id for a while now.

Nice to hear, except that it didn’t really seem like Rage was done when it was done.
