Bethesda: No New Star Trek Game

Bethesda’s Peter Hines has confirmed that there are no plans for a new Star Trek video game to accompany the new J.J. Abrams movie.

Pete Hines confirmed this news with FiringSquad but added, “Really interested in seeing the movie though. If anyone can make that movie awesome, it would be J.J. Abrams.”

Hines dealt another blow to Star Trek fans by confirming that Bethesda’s sister company ZeniMax Online Studios would not be picking up the Star Trek Online MMO abandoned by Perpetual entertainment.

“I don’t believe that is anything that we or ZOS is interested in or actively pursuing. “

As to whether there will be another game developed before the license runs out the only answer given was “TBD.”

Personally I think this comment by FiringSquad reader RedRay says it best:

Translation: We at Bethesda aren’t going to throw $10 million down a rat hole developing a game that will be crippled by non-programming nitwits at a movie studio mandating what we can and can not include in a game at the 11th hour of development for a movie that has at least a 50% chance of bombing at the box office.

Oh whatever. bethesda screwed trek gaming making the genere a shooter after a more talented developer responsible forfreaking SOLDIER OF FORTUNE already did it in fps’ and didnt degrade it nearly as much as bethesda did.

There is already an exstensive production of the star trek MMO, and the fact thats is where the movie team and the licensing of material and resources is really going.

Bethesda screwed trek and I think the powers that be saw that.
